Our server, Patrick, was wonderful. The food was delicious -- especially the kale salad and the mushroom potpie. The selection of brews was outstanding. I could not recommend the restaurant more highly!

We enjoyed an active Friday dinner hour with a fun, mutigenerational patrons. The vibe was trendy, yet chill. The service was very good, I had an Badasp which was a crisp bourbon cocktail. The house made chorizo was excellent with just the right amount of spice.

Great happy hour deals on select drinks and appetizers from 4-6. Fantastic service. Food was great. Highly recommend that Schnitzel sandwich. Be hungry if you order it because it's HUGE! I was only able to eat about 1/2 of it and unfortunately couldn't bag the remaining up for take away as we were headed to a concert. Speaking of, great place to go before events at United Center. Only 5-10 minute drive there after dining.

Pretty underwhelming experience. Concepts for dishes were neat, but did not come through in execution or warrant the price tag attached. Service was fine, but lackluster. We won't be back.

The food, beverages and service are tremendous i.e., creative and delicious. There is also ample space, which is nice.

Went there with no expectations, and enjoyed ourselves very much. I had three different beers and all were excellent, if seen at a store I would purchase any of those three. The food and service was great and the place was very lively / busy. All in all, we will look forward to a return visit!

Come for the beer menu - the beers are interesting, diverse, and well-done. The food was pretty average and often too salty (my husband and I are salt hounds, so things are rarely too salty for us). The beer bread was what you wanted it to be, so definitely get that. Our server could not have cared less, but other support staff were great.

Had the braised short ribs with polenta and it was amazing... especially the little peppers

Had a great experience here for West Town restaurant week. Menu was great and the beer was fun. We had a very friendly waiter and had an overall great experience.

My friends and I came in at the end of the evening and we had a lovely experience. Everyone loved their meals — the short rib and the duck confit were delicious! Thanks so much!

I was so disappointed with my most recent trip to forbidden roots. The beer is always great and food is good but the service today was terrible. My husband and I arrived with our baby a few minutes after opening. There was one bartender, one server and one manager on the floor. The bartender came quickly to take our drink order and explained that there was a large table (of about 12 people) that the server was helping and then she would be right over. Besides the large table there were 2 other tables and ours. The server (Bar B according to our receipt) stopped over before we got our beers for the food order and we asked for another minute. She didn't come back for another 15 minutes, but we understood that we asked for more time. We placed an order for burrata (a no cook dish) as a starter which took over 25 minutes to come to our table. In this time, no one checked on us. I had to find the server to ask if she could check on the burrata all the while or son was getting fussy from hunger (yes, he eats burrata and bread). After we had the burrata, we decided we didn't have enough time to order more food so we asked for the check which took another 10 minutes before we even had the bill in hand. When we went to pay with credit card, we were told the credit card machine was down. We paid with cash before realizing that we were still charged the 3% credit card processing fee...
