Our server was amazing. Staff and management were very welcoming, very on it ,and smiles all around. Made our anniversary dinner very memorable. Kashmir was very pleasant and made amazing recommendations. Will definitely be back in my next Chicago trip.

We had a mixed experience at Formento’s. The ambience was nice and inviting, and our server was knowledgeable & friendly. The bread with olive oil and garlic was a yummy start.
Some dishes hit the mark. The octopus was tender & tasty, though the sauce underneath leaned salty. The steak frites had good flavor, and the fries were a standout! Thick, crispy, and tender inside. The whole fish (branzino?) was also well done, and the brussel sprouts were very good. Drinks were solid too; the espresso martini, beers (although no IPA options on the menu), and Long Island were all enjoyable.
A few things took away from the night. I never received my pasta entree (when our server came to ask if we were interested in dessert, I realized it wasn’t delayed but that he’d forgotten to submit it. His response confirmed) and we never received water refills. Bussers also tried to clear plates while we were still eating. Like not asking but reaching in & over to pick up our appetizer plates & cutlery when we’re not done. Lastly, the lemonade was weak.
Overall, the food had some real highlights, but the service inconsistencies made the experience uneven.
Great meal and service for evening at Formento's. Server was very outgoing and pleasant the whole time.

The server took a while for everything, there were so many people around coming at the table it was a little overwhelming, and they sat us in a place where people were walking so my friend kept on getting barged in by people walking past. When my friend asked a question about the wine menu she was met with a very condescending answer and dessert took forever to come out.

How is this place still open? Vibe is bad / food below average/ service way too much talking from server! Too structured- asked for some appetizers to get my table started: I was told we want the entire order all at once. Come on! It's not the French Laundry! Lots of places let you order some apps then as the guests check out the menu , they order the mains. I go to Joe's we do it that way all the time! Next time I will plan better and go to a better spot. Food was average/ meatballs good. Bartender was awesome/ he had a pony tail! Rest of place was meh!

I hosted a family event for 9 at Formentos on a Saturday night in October, 2025. It was a first time visit, but I was optimistic - I wanted to like this place. But it was a bust for us from the very start. We were seated in a booth, but there was a make-shift table placed in front of it that was too short. We looked so awkward, that the manager came by and offered a more appropriate seating arrangement, eventually. Once we were re-seated the real issues snow-balled. From drink mix ups to poorly prepared food - we experienced multiple failures. The appetizers were good ( Yeah, to Mammas Meatballs) but it took the entrees so long to come, that some couldn't help but to fill up on extra bread (for which we were charged an added $24 without our knowledge). So the entrees finally do come, and they were a mess. Meals were being sent back to the kitchen faster than I could count. Watching someone bite into undercooked chicken parm is not pleasant. I even sent my extremely over cooked, over priced bone-in filet back and told them to keep it. By then, I had lost my appetite and faith that I was going to get a quality replacement. This place has no right to demand the prices they do for the food served. Luckily my family found humor in all of the chaos and the management was guilted into comping many of the items. But if I were aiming to impress out of town guests or business clients, it would have been a very embarrassing evening.

Our early dinner for 10 was perfect. The service, food and beverages were spot on and they were gracious when we lingered a bit after dinner. We love to share the dining treasures of our city with our family from all over the country and they were truly delighted with Formento's.
