A great experience at Gibson's. I sat outside for lunch and enjoyed a hearty salad and drink. A nice scene with all their flowers and guests coming & going. Busy area and popular place! Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Great food ~ I'll be back! (2025) š„š¹

Service and dining was exquisite. The food was subpar. Steaks had a gross char to them and left an unpleasant crust on the otherwise tasty steak

Steak had a foul smell, confirmed by our waiter. The smallest tomahawk I've seen. cooked ok. but the meat had gone bad.
Sweet potatoes, I think it was just boiled and brought to table.
Salad, Im sure it was served with a store-bought sauce.
Ice cream was good.
Atmosphere was great here, service great, our waiter was amazing.
Funny part, after confirming by our waiter that the meat definitely had an undesirable smell, they gave a $7 discount to cover the ice cream. lol.
overall, I cant believe how bad the food was.

The staff we had were remarkably friendly, service is quick, and respectful. The service is the best in town. The atmosphere is great but takes a little notch because sometimes I canāt hear the conversation I am having. The food though is good, but not the best I ever had. If I want an amazing steak I prefer bellevue due to they give sauce with their steaks and I am a big sauce guy. The steak at Gibsons doesnāt come with sauce or anything and felt a bit burnt. They do offer their seasoning and I overdid mine a little bit and was too salty so be aware of that. Cod chowder was phenomenal.

Gibson's Steakhouse in Chicago is a must-visit for any steak lover. From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere exudes classic Chicago charm with its warm, upscale vibe. The service is top-notchāattentive and knowledgeable without being overbearing. The steaks are simply outstanding, cooked to perfection, and full of flavor, easily ranking among the best in the city. The sides and desserts are equally impressive, especially the massive slice of chocolate cake. While itās on the pricier side, the quality of food and experience make it worth every penny. Perfect for celebrating a special occasion or just indulging in a memorable dining experience.

Restaurantji Recommends
After a 15-year hiatus, I decided to revisit this restaurant, hoping that a change in chef might have revitalized the food quality. Unfortunately, this was not the case. The experience was profoundly disappointing.
The ribeye steak was not cooked to the requested medium-plus and had to be returned for additional cooking due to its underdone center. Even then, it was riddled with excessive fat, making it unpleasant to eat. The mushrooms lacked any discernible flavor, and the so called "double-baked potato" was merely a standard baked potato with some cheese-- hardly the elevated side one expects at a fine dining establishment.
To matters worse, the bottle of burgundy wine we ordered took an unreasonably long time to arrive as the staff struggled to locate what seemed to be a neglected, dusty bottle.
In contrast, I recently dined at Gibson's Italia, and the experience was worlds apart. Their Chicago Cut ribeye was exceptional, showcasing both superior preparation and flavor. That said, I couldn't help but wonder if the attentive service there was influenced by the perception of "preferred" patrons. Regardless, the quality of the meal was undeniably better.
At this establishment, however, the ambiance, decorated with celebrity photos, felt more like an attempt to distract from the lackluster dining experience. The glowing five-star reviews online are highly misleading. I left wondering how the restaurant remains in business, and sadly, I cannot recommend it.

Gibson's did not disappoint as a proverbial Chicago steakhouse institution! It is difficult to find just where to critique because the overall experience was top-notch. Here's the rundown...
Atmosphere: A+. This is not your modern dining or niche hotspot; Gibson's is an iconic American experience. Be ready for the downtown vibrance, high-noise, high-energy, high-speed setting. Gibson's is what the classic American steakhouse is all about. Situated in a great area with plenty of windows, there is no bad seat in the house.
Service: A-. Our team was fantastic, maybe too fantastic. At a place like Gibson's, diners shouldn't expect a personal greeting or engaging service team, but I always think this is an area for restaurants to improve - especially if we're spending top-dollar. The tempo, attentiveness, and clarity were great; just don't miss opportunities to slow down to build rapport! Regardless, bravo to our team, they were great.
Food/Beverage: A. I'm from Wisconsin, Old Fashioneds are our bread and butter, Gibson's knocked it out of the park. Our pre-meal bread offering lacked flavor, but this was easily forgotten by the outstanding lobster bisque and PERFECT filet. Any way you run it, the menu at Gibson's is top.
I cannot wait to go back!

Based on just my experience but not necessarily the entire restaurant. It was very crowded and there was not much space between tables. Our opinion at the table was that the asparagus wasn't any good but good gesture they took it off the bill. The overall experience was good.

A Memorable Birthday Celebration at Gibsons
We recently visited Gibsons to celebrate our sonās 16th birthday, and despite a hiccup with our reservation, the evening turned out to be absolutely stellar. We had made a reservation online, but upon arrival, it was not showing up in the system. The two hostesses at the front, including Lauren, tried their best to locate it but were unable to accommodate us initially.
I requested to speak with a manager, and Rick came to assist us. After explaining our situation and mentioning that we had driven over an hour from the suburbs, Rick was incredibly understanding. We shared that we had other options in Oak Brook and Rosemont but chose this location to make our sonās birthday special. Rickās kindness and efficiency were remarkable; he managed to accommodate us quickly without much wait time.
The rest of the evening was flawless. The service, food, and overall experience were top-notch. Our family had a wonderful time, and it turned out to be a memorable birthday celebration that we will cherish for years to come.
Thank you, Team Gibsons, for making our sonās birthday so special!
