The charcoal grill is INCREDIBLE and gogi is the only place I know that has it. Meat is fresh and well marinated. Side options are perfect. Booze comes in huge portions (hot sake for example comes in a giant teapot). The service is quick and personal, speaking as a regular. How come it’s temporarily closed right now? ;( Desperately need my weekly doze of kbbq from my favorite place in chicago.

Great service, overpriced food, the bbq grill pan literally ruined the food especially bulgogi tasted like boiled meat not bbq. Charge so much for a very small amount of meat. You can’t even eat to get full cuz you’ll go broke. The restaurant lot itself was dirty, would’ve been nice if they atleast have parking lot cleaned up. Bathroom was so dirty, ended up holding my business to go somewhere else.Honestly wasted money and regret it very much.

I have high expectations for Korean BBQ, having lived in North Jersey for years. I was pleasantly surprised by the food here at Gogi. While the tteokbokki wasn't my favorite, but the haemul pajeon was very good (and cut Chicago tavern style!).The kalbi, spicy pork, and shrimp were all excellent. The naengmyeon was very good. There were lots of different panchan (free side dishes). Some of my favorites were missing, but I also had new ones I hadn't tried before. I haven't had enough doengjang jigae to be an expert, but wu Korean wife said it was very good.Service was attentive and friendly. We got refills on panchan, extras like garlic and spicy sauce for our naengmyeon. Most impressive to me was how much we got for the price. BBQ isn't a cheap dinner, but we were served probably twice as much kalbi and twice as much shrimp as I was expecting for the price.Excellent food, excellent service, and excellent value! Will drive the hour to go again.

It was our first time and Paul our waiter was exceptionally great! He helped us order all the right things! Really created an easy/chill experience. Don’t snooze on the YANGNYEOM GALBI & SAMGYEOPSAL. Pink radish and kimchi were good and oh portions are huge! Lychee soju & Cass beer paired well with dinner! We came late on Thursday night and the lot was packed, so prepare to look for street parking.. nonetheless we will definitely be back 10/10 ? PS Gogi is 1-of-4 K-BBQ spots in the city that uses charcoal grill ?

Overpriced for no reason. We spent a total of $118 including tips of the short ribs and bulgogi and 1 bottle of soju. Two ribs and about 1/4 lbs of the bulgogi. The restaurant was empty. The decor is dreadful. Food-wise was mid - tasted like any other generic kbbq you can get at k-mart. Would not recommend

It gets a 5 star because the food was amazing. Staff did a good job assisting with cooking the food when our table got distracted with conversation. There isn’t much appeal for the exterior or interior presentation, think functional. You’re not going there for linen tablecloths, you go there to taste great Korean BBQ. The buzzers on the tables were annoying and kept getting bumped.

If I had to pick one Korean restaurant to go to in Chicago, it would be Gogi. The food is always reliably good.

First time for Korean BBQ. Grilled marinated beef was fantastic. Grilled pork belly was OK, could have used any kind of additional flavors (sauce, etc.).

Excellent and very authentic Korean bbq. My gf, who has lived in Korea for many years, recommends this place as the No.1 Korean food joint in Chicago. She also appeared in Check Please and recommended this place.

Told us to come he have a table , then asking for reservation
For authentic Korean BBQ, nothing beats a charcoal grill!
Let me start: I am not a Korean cuisine aficionado, so arguably, what I judge a chewy meat is exactly how it is supposed to be. We tried a variety of things, including pork (not chewy), beef (bulgogi) & seafood (squid), the last of which was very chewy, albeit our fault as we do not run that little grill that well. We had a large birthday group and our very nice and well meaning waitress that said would cook things for us, just did not show up often enough. This last issue is a product of what I can only assume is the restaurant's decision to not hire sufficient staff, which you can attribute to whatever reasoning you wish. Bottom line, I have had Korean barbecue that I liked a lot more. On the upside, the flavoring was solid, dumplings were good, as were the sides, but they did not refill often enough. The kimchee soup kicked your butt, in the proper manner.
