If you woke up inside the Gold Star and the somebody told you it was 1:30 you’d be hard pressed to know if it was am or pm. This place has a load of personality with zero pretension. It’s a great place to have a beer and just soak up the sights, of which include a creepy and decaying clown head near the back door.

Got denied by the bouncer yesterday who accused me of having a fake ID. I’m 23 years old, from NJ, and just upgraded my license (in November 2024, see below) to a real ID (expires May 2026). I was dead sober and very confused by the interaction with the seemingly unbothered and rude bouncer who fiddled with my ID for 2+ minutes before turning me away. Stinks as I’ve been to this bar several times before and always had a good time.
EDIT: rewriting this review because the establishment tried to gaslight me in my last review by claiming my ID was expired. Really strange behavior by them - would recommend staying away just because of that. I messaged the owner of the bar on LinkedIn to resolve this cordially, so it felt pretty odd for them to go the route of making up lies here instead of investigating what went wrong on their end…

The bartenders last night were attentive and very kind despite having a very busy bar. They knocked it out of the park and had delicious drinks as well. I recommend the seasonal mule!
I’ve never been to a place where they charge you for a liquor drink and pour just lemonade! I saw her just squirt from the soda dispenser, charge me $12 and be really mean about it.

It's whatever. Feels like a millennial trap
update: since ownership responded with their own respective temper tantrum here are reasons why I didn't like it:
1. beer was expensive 2. creepy and weird clientele 3. TV's everywhere
the aesthetic of the bar feels like one you would see on a ig reel of the 'top 5 dives in chicago'
