The best late night spot for all your cravings, the specials are great, the food is delicious, all hand crafted even the egg rolls! Good service, I ate inside late at night, and took the rest home. Highly recommend it!

Golden chef is the best hole in the wall. They have a kids meal for $7 and it can feed two adults for $7 you can’t find that deal anywhere. There crab Rangoon is soooo good. Also there lunch special are perfect portion you can even save some for later. Everything is made to order and it a family ran business.

Large serving sizes, nice lady, taste wasn't my favorite. Broccoli was tough. Chicken was more tangy than spicy.

I used to order from the Chinese place across the street from Golden Chef (it's in that one strip mall right there). That place was randomly closed a few weeks ago, so I checked out Golden Chef for the first time ever. I'm so glad I did!

The food is good, like what I expect for what I'm paying. It's American-style Chinese food, and all the dishes I've ordered so far are made to scratch that itch. Meat is flavorful, sauces are seasoned just right. The portions are big and it's fairly priced. My husband and I split a small entree, an appetizer, and a small fried rice for dinner, and I still have enough for lunch the next day.

But it's not the good food or the good value that made me decide that I'll only be ordering from this place-- not the place across the street-- from now on. It's the vibes of this place that won me over. The woman at the register is so kind and warm. She makes me feel welcome, instead of like I'm inconveniencing her by my existence. Any time I've made eye contact with someone working in the kitchen, it's that same thing: a genuine smile/kind vibes.
The place across the street never felt like that.

Last thing of note-- I used to work in a Chinese restaurant all throughout high school. The food cooks fast! Stir fry = high heat, quick cooking. So yes, expect the food to be done quick. I never have to wait long here when waiting for my food. It doesn't mean it's not fresh. It means they have the raw chicken ready to fry to order. At the place I worked, sauces were typically batch-prepared at the start of the day, and then the sauce would get added into the wok at the end. This is another reason why it can be made from scratch and be fresh, but also be fast.
I just order when I get there, instead of ordering ahead.

Anyway, the staff is kind, the food is good (definitely the best Chinese food in Humboldt Park IMO), the service is quick, and it's a great value.

Ordered general tso chicken around 7:30pm. Arrived not even 3 mins after I ordered, they already had the food ready? Walked back (literally next door) and was the ABSOLUTE WORST general tso I've had in the 13 years in Chicago.. Felt like I was going to break a tooth biting into the chicken.

I ordered a Chicken Kow that is basically chicken with mixed vegetables, and I asked if I could have it with Black Bean Sauce and Spicy. Black Bean Sauce is like the dark sauce they would use for a Mongolian beef. And when I got home with the order I picked up I got this watery ass soup almost worth some soggy ass vegetables and it looked disgusting. I called them back right away and they said they had a new cook and next time they would ask a different cook to make the order the way I wanted. I don't think there will be a next time.

I've been getting delivery here for months now. The prices aren't bad, but the food has declined.

I hate to say that the Wonton soup used to be a weekly staple for me, but as of the last 2-3 months a recipe change has happened and I'm not very fond of it. I will say the same thing about the quality of the rice, as well as the Mongolian Beef. It used to be prepared much better with so much flavor and heat, but now it's a shadow of it former self.

I'm assuming there was a chef change at some point earlier this year. In my opinion if you can't get the last chef back, then find a new one. Everything was bland this time, the meals have progressively gotten worse.
My soup tasted like water and the Wontons were under seasoned.

I would recommend Wok You Want if you don't mind spending a little more, or really for anyone looking for a better place.
