Update: it us now January 2025 and the Skeleton is still up
Update # 2: The giant skeleton casting is ghastly shadow on the otherwise lovely Grace Street since October 2024 has been taken brought down in February of 2025.
Maybe I will end my boycott if they have Lunch on tap again to celebrate this victory.
I look forward to coming to Grace and Leavitt! This place is sitting on your back porch at home, mixed with gorgeous and clean marble bar top, fun tunes and more than anything, the sweetest most personable bartenders. Neil remembered our drinks, checked in on us and made us feel taken care of. Kalica made us smile, gave us amazing recommendations and made sure we had everything we need. And neither of them forgot to treat my dog Dottie with the same quality of service - with a fresh pup cup and water as soon as she wanted it! All in all, I’ll continue being a regular as often as possible! (Can you be open 24/7?!?!)

Unreal neighborhood bar. More importantly, to say that Kalicia is the best bartender of all time would be an insult to bartenders, because she was beyond great. Also a shout out to Neil for his service too. Truly a great place and great experience. Chicago needs more neighborhood places like this.

Bartender was unwelcoming and pretentious, and funnily enough they were quiet misinformed on the subject. First off, they made fun of a customer who asked for a fruity martini, going on a rant about how no one knows what a martini is and how the name has lost all meaning. Unnecessary, but fair enough. Then as I looked over the menu, I saw they had a “margarita” and the ingredients were tequila, lime juice, and agave. I used to manage a tequila bar and for 2 years I lived and breathed margaritas, so I said “oh interesting, no triple sec or orange liqueur in your margarita”. The bartender snapped at me “yeah, that’s how it’s SUPPOSED to be”. Well, my dear friend, now that I have found my voice, I would like you to meet a little thing called the internet where a quick google search will tell you aaaalllll about margaritas, where and how they originated, etc, but I’ll save you a few milliseconds: a classic margarita is “supposed” to be tequila, lime, and triple sec. But let’s get to the real issue- can people just order what they want and drink what they want without being judged for it?
I definitely got the vibe that this bar is a watering-hole type that caters first and foremost to the locals. Which is fine. But if you don’t live down the block or you don’t want to intrude on the weekly PTA meeting, I’d find another bar.
