Unique vibe and atmosphere. I appreciate the non-alcoholic drink options.

Julio was great. The food is fine. Would not wait around on this place with how many other great spots there are within a few blocks.

Gretel is a much-hyped spot with an expected long wait due to no reservations. Plan accordingly and be prepared for a 2+ hour wait at peak time, and there are plenty of fun spots within walking distance to get a drink while you wait.

Once we were sat, our server was great! Kind and attentive without being overbearing, I always appreciate when we’re left to linger at the table and have a drink before placing food orders and not feeling rushed.

We split the Gretel burger (when in Rome, right?) and the chopped salad. Both were delicious!

The chopped salad is a very hefty portion, better to split amongst 4 people rather than two since we left half of it behind. The cheese ratio was too heavy on the salad (and I can’t believer I’m saying the words ā€œtoo much cheeseā€) while the dressing was too sparse.

The burger lives up to the hype for a reason, and nothing more needs to be said beyond YUM!

Gretel is open late and on our way out at about 11pm, things were winding down. So it’s good to keep in mind for when you’re craving a late night bite beyond the usual fast food spots.

Overall, Gretel maintains the reasons it’s well-regarded and I will return to expand my menu choices!

Great music, awesome staff and delicious food. The rib appetizer and the elote had so much flavor. We both had the burger and it was great. The fries were on the skinny side and they were a little overdone but the dipping sauce made up for it. We will definitely be back.

My first visit was a happenstance as I made my way eastward, on the beautiful stretch of Armitage Ave that borders Logan/ Humboldt. Tall ceilings with a lofty vibe. Granite bar with a large selection of spirits on their neatly arranged back bar. Plenty of space for large parties and one on one seating for date nights, on their main level. Downstairs invites a lounge like feel for busier nights and is reminiscent of a bohemian speakeasy. Stay tuned for more feedback on the food, however I imagine this establishment lands the plane from what I’ve seen. Second visit was just a beer/ shot of Fernet Branca and and their ā€œBlistered Shishito Pepersā€ (kewpie mayo, togarashi, fried garlic). Also the grand tour. Valerie was an amazing bartender and breath of fresh air on day one, and day two was Juan. Very profane personable! Stay tuned…

We came here because it had good reviews on the burgers and it did not disappoint. Simple and delicious! I also tried the prime rib French dip and Brussel sprouts. Everything was great.

Amazing food! The wait was long, there were 19 people ahead of us and it took us an hour and a half to get a table. The lobster roll was amazing, the bone marrow and Elote are a must have. The burger was 10/10. I have had lobster rolls in Maine and this one was as good as those.

Ordered the bone marrow and was a psychedelic experience. It’s a large portion and comes with a side of jam and baguette toast. Best savory sweet experience I’ve had in a while. 10/10 would recommend.

PS the pretzel is pack a punched. Some of you will know what that means.

We came for the Gretel Griddle Burger, and it absolutely delivered. The patty was perfectly cooked and juicy, the buns were delicious, and the sauce tied everything together beautifully. The place is decorated more like a whiskey or beer bar, but the burger is definitely the star. The only minor downside is that the lower floor feels a bit enclosed and dark.

Went here for lunch today and great burger but the surprise was the bourbon selection. They have a really nice bottle list. The burger has a good amount of salt but I really liked it. The bun with seasoning was fantastic.

I came to Gretel in Chicago with a few friends and had such a great experience! The atmosphere was lively but still cozy — the kind of spot that feels perfect for catching up over good food and drinks. I ordered the Monarch cocktail and the signature Gretel Griddle Burger, and both were amazing. The Monarch was perfectly balanced — refreshing, smooth, and beautifully made. The burger absolutely lived up to the hype: juicy, flavorful, and cooked just right. Our server was friendly and attentive, and the food came out quickly even though the place was busy. Between the great service, relaxed vibe, and delicious food, Gretel definitely impressed me!
