I have never eaten a fried chicken like that. Juicy inside crispy outside. No wonder why there is no KFC in downtown Chicago.

My first time coming to this establishment and my expectations are blow out the water! Everything was fresh and delicious-this chicken reminded me of my grandmothers chicken!!! I don’t even eat greens and they were mouth watering! The service was great and the music was reminiscent of the oldies. I haven’t even left the restaurant and I can’t wait till we come back!

The chicken is a bomb the rest of the side are mediocre at best but that chicken ??

The chicken is always crispy, juicy, and the right hit of spice. The sides aren't stellar but they're supporting characters. Lol.

What we had:
- Fried green tomatoes
- Fried Chicken, baked beans, mac, okra

It's just down to earth, simple.

The okra is AMAZING. Cooked perfectly, not greasy. The collard greens were seasoned just right. They were really good.
NOW….
The Mac N’ Cheese had velveeta in it. :/
It was not good.
The fried chicken is overrated.
It tastes like Chinese chicken wings. :(

A gentleman came inside begging for work and the employee allowed him to clean the store windows.

I’ve dined in twice already and both times I had a 5 star experience. My most recent visit was take out and the guy tending the counter was very rude so I matched his energy. Seems he was having a hard time with 3 people figuring out who was going to pay what, and I was patiently waiting my turn. When he asked if he could help me, I said “picking up” he angrily looks at me at gestures to show me the name on the order. Since I wasn’t expecting that I pulled my phone out and said “you could be a little more nicer” which in return waved me off and murmured something to the effect, “now you wait” and continued to deal with the 3 previous guests. So I saw my order and helped myself to it being that it was paid for already and I didn’t pay $32 to get cold food just because he doesn’t know how to multitask. I will continue to go back because the food is delicious, but I won’t tolerate a shitty attitude.

Great delicious food!! First time was amazing. A bit upset because prices are high and I was shorted on chicken pieces. It’s kind of a shame especially since I paid ~$5 for a missing tender.

We stopped here for dinner while road tripping. The slight extra time spent finding street parking was worth it. This place rules! Super chill vibe, friendly staff, and they were playing the Paralympics and the WNBA on their TVs, which I really loved. Our food was incredible (do NOT sleep on the greens!) and the cocktail my husband got was tasty. The prices are super reasonable, and overall I think this spot is a wonderful little gem in the middle of a neighborhood full of wannabe-fancy cornball bars and restaurants that wish they were cool but come across more like an upscale mall. Go to Gus's! The vibes and the food are authentic.
