If this is your first time trying Japanese BBQ, I would recommend this spot. Even if you are a professional at Japanese BBQ, you will be satisfied with the options and the speed of service.
Meats have good quality but the waiters are way too few.

What a horrible experience and so pricy. Food was so nasty and the server sucked. The meat was so fatty and barely filling. My sister wanted the garlic noodles and boy were they crunchy. The only thing that filled me up was the huge portion of white rice. Never coming again.

I’ve been here twice now and both times have been amazing and food is always fresh and delicious. 10 out of 10 I highly recommend.

We arrived about an hour before our reservation and they were very accommodating to get us in early. The service was excellent, our waitress explained how everything worked as it was our first time at this type of restaurant. The food was excellent and plentiful.
We ordered the Premium Wagyu Course from the Flavors of Japan menu. The staff were attentive and our food was served in a timely manner. We thought everything was delicious and flavorful, especially the curry. Choosing items from the yakiniku menu is a fun and interactive experience, but there are also regular menu items that come to the table ready to eat.

Gyu-Kaku Japanese BBQ is a fun and interactive dining experience where you can grill your own food right at the table. The quality of the meats and sides is very good, and the portions are satisfying. The atmosphere is casual and welcoming, making it a great spot for a night out with friends or family. Service is usually attentive, though it can get a little slow when the restaurant is busy. Prices are reasonable for the unique experience you get. Overall, highly recommended if you enjoy cooking and eating great Japanese BBQ!

This place was great! We left the Kaiser Tiger due to a bad experience with the wait staff. This place was down the street and looked good. We all loved it. The wait staff was top notch especially our server Aaron. Everything we ate was delicious and came out very fast. It was a perfect example of how a restaurant experience in downtown Chicago should be. Thank You!

We had such a great time at Gyu-Kaku and a big part of that was thanks to Aaron, our server. He was so kind and patient, especially as we were asking questions about the menu and how things worked. He made the whole experience fun and stress-free, which I really appreciated. It’s rare to get that kind of warm, genuine service these days. Thank you, Aaron!

Aaron made our dinner at Gyu-Kaku way better than we expected. He was super attentive without being overbearing, and kept checking in at the perfect times. He explained everything clearly, made some really solid food recommendations, and honestly just had good energy all around. You can tell he cares about the experience. Definitely ask for Aaron if you go!

Aaron crushed it. You don’t always get servers who actually enjoy what they do, but this guy clearly does. Friendly, fast, and knew his stuff. He kept everything moving smoothly without us ever feeling rushed. Place was packed and he still made time to check in and joke with us a bit. Good dude — Gyu-Kaku’s lucky to have him.
