I mean, it’s just real.
There’s a limited menu, and what I got was the spicy beef and vegetable soup. Amazing flavor, only obstacle is not burning myself eating too fast. Seems like most of the other dishes are the more nutritious and rich sullungtang-style soups that can be less flavorful, so if you’re looking for a soup with more spice mine was i n c r e d i b l e. comes with banchan and the little grandma watching k-dramas in the back room. this place has amazing food and reviews to match yet never seen more than 1 group in here at a time. it’s like a magic place that picks you, not the other way around. if cho sun ok is the legendary place for korean barbecue, this is the legendary place for korean soup.
(i will say as someone with a dietary restriction i was a little scared because there was almost no information provided whatsoever. so for anyone wondering about gluten free, the soups come with glass noodles, probably made from sweet potato)

This place is amazing.

The prices are very reasonable, and the owner is incredibly kind and welcoming.

Most importantly, seollengtang (oxbow soup) is truly delicious. Even better than some of the well-known spots I've tried in korea. Seollengtang is a simple meal of soup, rice, in kimchi, so good kimchi really matters, and theirs is outstanding.

They accept cash only, so be sure to bring cash.

Highly recommended.

Hole in the wall restaurant serving delicious seolleongtang. It's all seolleongtang on the menu with your choice of various beef cuts. Comes with fresh napa kimchi, radish kimchi, green onions, salt & pepper, and corn tea. It's very affordable for Chicago. I would come back!

The sweetest little grandma runs this soup shop and it feels so homely!! We loved the soups we ordered, and will definitely be going back again! If you’re looking for nostalgic Korean soup, this is the humblest, most affordable place, 10/10!

You know it's gonna be good when the ahjima comes out with scissors to cut the kimchi.

This place is a true hole-in-the-wall — simple, almost raw décor — but the food more than makes up for it. I’ve had the beef brisket soup and a few of their other dishes, and everything has been consistently delicious. It’s the kind of spot you’re really glad to have in the neighborhood. Great flavors, great value, and always satisfying. Highly recommend.

The best homey meal for very reasonable price. Kimchi looks homemade and all the banchan goes very well with the soup! Also granny is super cute.

Cash only places always hit different. Hole in the wall, straight forward, basic menu, no fee ATM inside. Food is what you come for. Tastes like family

A very no frills, owner-couldn’t-give-a-heck-about-you type experience and it was awesome. I got the beef brisket soup and it came with a side of kimchi, radish kimchi, rice, and green onions. The soup when it arrives is pretty mild but they give you everything you need to add some flavor. The brisket was good, the kimchi was amazing, and the tea (I think Barley?) was also great. Definitely more of a winter spot but not terrible on a summer day either! It is cash only with a no-fee ATM inside.

Authentic Korean soups that is very simple, clean and tasty. Soup comes with homemade kimchi and radish along with green onions and rice. Soup base is very simple and is not salted so you have to salt to taste. Although the soup is simple, the combination with the side dishes is perfect.
