It’s so bad…

Julian Campos-Pleitez

I ordered from an app and I agree on the rating. The macaroni portion is small compared to what is pictured, no pineapple in my order and a bit too expensive for what i ordered. I usually don’t leave a review but I had to this time!

Food was salty, $5 extra for a scoop (when it was supposed to be a “side”) of Macaroni salad that had too much mayo and small servings of protein.

I’ve had Hawaiian Bros a few times now and it’s always been good. The Huli Huli Chicken and Luau Pig are usually my go to entrees. The Molokai Chicken is also good if you’re feeling like something a little on the spicier side.

The star of the show is their mac salad. It is so good, it takes me back to when I was in Oahu. I always get an extra side of it cause I can never have enough.

I moved out here from Las Vegas a few years ago, which they say is “Hawaii’s Ninth Island,” so needless to say, I know my Hawaiian food. If you’re looking for good Hawaiian food in the area, I definitely recommend checking out Hawaiian Bros.

Ordered a to go plate and there wasn’t any macaroni which is really all I was craving. They didn’t let me know they were out of it or offered an alternative. The chicken on top of that was dry and overcooked and the rice was cold. This place used to be good but they’ve gone way down hill and customer service is non existent. It’s not worth the money anymore and the food is so mid.

I originally wrote a review complaining about the prices, what I’ve realized is that the food is significantly cheaper if you order directly on the Hawaiian Bros website instead of at the location, do not order at the location

The food is good, it’s definitely the best Hawaiian food in Chicago

My only critique is inconsistency in both portions and quality, I’ve probably eaten here 15+ times and the consistency is lacking

It was so awesome to find a place that has the real flavors from back home! Authentic flavors with good portions. Keep delivering the ono grinds guys!

i ordered from here last night and unfortunately got really sick a few hours after eating — high fever, chills, and stomach issues that feel like food poisoning. the food also tasted a bit off when i got it. i just want to share my experience so the restaurant can double-check their food safety and storage practices. hoping they take this seriously and make sure it doesn’t happen to anyone else.

Poor service via Uber Eats app, lied they are too busy and causing customers to cancel via app which charges customers unless they wait over an hr for it to time out. FRAUD.

Update: October 18, 2025
At this hour the options are limited. McDonald’s, dominos pizza, and this place. Hawaiian bros is running a special buy one get one free. (Figured it’s not really given the meat portion here but with two orders it should be good enough.) I ordered again. No utensils. I’m in temporary accommodations and I have no utensils. How am I supposed to eat this? With my fingers? They’re so hasty or cheap. (Kept at one star.)

Ok, just opened it. Theres probably 2/3 less rice UNDER the meat (previously maybe 80% rice v meat in entree portion). This is a big improvement. Increasing this from one to three stars for the noticeable change.

Fyi, ordered through uber eats

I’ve ordered from Hawaiian Bros in Waco, Dallas, and now Chicago, each over a handful of times. The Chicago place is so disappointing. It was disappointing from the get-go with the complete skimp on the meat (compare my order of mixed plate to that which is advertised online which is what I get at other places). It’s one of the few late night open places for a hot meal but the food received was so comical I had to write a post.

From the get-go at this location, the main section of the plate, instead of being filled with meat like other places, is filled with the rice and topped with chicken. So every time I’d get it, I’d be impressed with how much they’d skimp. Today, I paid EXTRA 59 swap the Mac and cheese (1/4 section) for veggies.

Now the main section is filled with mostly rice, and half topped with veggies, and the other quarter sprinkled with chicken.

This is a joke.

And btw, they only have spoons for this meal.

You would think that a restaurant launched with the idea of meat, rice and Mac would make sure all three make it into the order. If I wanted meat and and rice there are dozens of Chinese places I could have ordered from. I specifically wanted the Mac

Food was delicious and at a good price point. The Mac salad is not sweet at all. No pineapple or nice in anything unless it’s listed. Food was ready very quickly. The young lady at the counter was very kind and helpful relayed my food allergy to Gawain brow from the shared front desk/ lobby area.

This place is so disorganized. Understaffed and rude as all hell. I was told my order is arriving an hour and a half late because of a catering order. I was also told they prioritize catering over individual orders. So I'm SOL. When I asked how would I have known this, they said I couldn't. It's a ghost kitchen, that cannot complete orders on time. EAT ELSEWHERE IF YOU VALUE YOUR TIME!
