Foods great. Service is weird. Asked for 2 chix noodle soups. He gave me matzo ball soup because said he grabbed the wrong one. Whatever. Didn’t care until I realized it was still cold. If they were warmed up I wouldn’t have cares because it would have been “used”, but they were cold. Why didn’t you just grab the chicken noodle? Had I known I wasn’t getting hot soup I would’ve pressed him for my chicken noodle. So weird.

I’ve been going here now regularly for a year and it’s such a pleasure to have an authentic Jewish Deli here in Wicker/Bucktown area. Phenomenal bagels/bialy, but I really come back regularly for the Reuben. They take pride in their work and like the sandwiched sky high with fresh incredients. Usually one sandwich and a bag of chips makes it 2 meals for me, and the flavor is delicious.

Helfeld’s is officially the go-to lunch spot for Wicker Park/Bucktown locals! Absolutely worth the trip if you’re outside of the neighborhood as well. Food was delicious, the location is charming and the owner/sandwich maker was super helpful and nice. Can’t recommend this place more highly.

Not super impressed. We’ve been trying all the bagel shops around chicago & this one fell flat. Our bagels were underdone and wet/doughy inside and tiny. For both value and quality I’d recommend other bagel shops in the city. It’s a shame, we went out of our way to stop here and it totally fell flat. Gotham & Tillys are higher quality in taste and a better value.

We’re visiting from Iowa and stumbled upon this gem. Helfeld is top notch! The owner is a character in the best way: grumpy, hilarious, and full of charm. It adds to the whole experience and makes it unforgettable.

We tried the pastrami and Reuben sandwiches, and they were absolutely fabulous, easily some of the best we’ve ever had. The flavors were bold, the meat was perfectly prepared, and the bread was spot-on.

Highly recommend this place if you’re looking for great food with personality and heart. We’ll be talking about this place long after the trip!
