Hendrickx Belgian Bread Crafter is such a gem. An amazing bakery with the fluffiest croissants and genuinely solid coffee. I was working next door for a week and getting to stop in every morning felt like a small daily luxury.

I did not get the chance to try their sandwiches which I regret because everything looked incredible, so that alone is reason enough to come back. I am absolutely returning for more.

Also the man working there was so sweet and welcoming it honestly made the experience. He kind of looks like someone out of a baroque painting somehow warm + timeless. One of those places that makes a city feel special.

Absolutely phenomenal- the croissants are top 2-3 I’ve had anywhere, and absolutely worth the $5 or so that they cost. Their coffee is actually super affordable which I really appreciate. I got 3 pastries (pistachio croissant , chocolate croissant , and apple turnover) and a Belgian coffee plus tip for around $20 which is more than fair imo. The Belgian hot coffee with caramel is excellent and has a perfect coffee flavor and perfect amount of cream & caramel (not too sweet) for less than $3- the same drink elsewhere would be like $5-6 nowadays. The location/setting is cool because you go in the orange door up the stairs and enter this little humble bakery, and the owners/workers at the counter were very welcoming friendly and helpful on my first visit. Their pastries are the real deal & I will definitely be back when I can!

We specifically stopped here for macarons. They had great reviews and thought it would be great. The macarons were hard and dry. They were very pricey at 3.75 each and definitely not worth it. It was very disappointing.
Staff was very friendly.

Been here various times because this bakery specializes in croissants! This is the place for the variety of croissants you can’t find in other bakeries.
My favorite is the cheese filled croissant.
I also recently brought pastries for the office and everyone loved them!
The place can be hard time find and is hidden but that makes it much greater!

You want to try an AUTHENTIC and delicious croissant without having to go to France? You've found the right place. The croissants are absolutely phenomenal.
The pastries are also super delicious and every item is fresh the flavors are rich.
The service is also phenomenal, the person behind the counter (not sure if he is the owner) but he is so friendly, helpful, always willing to recommend the best food. Highly recommend!

This place used to be amazing... And then they got famous and the quality declined unfortunately. Went here for years every time I was in Chicago but was very underwhelmed the last two times. I thought the first may have been a fluke, but after the second time it is probably just that the quality is lower now.

I just happened to stop by here, and the staff were really friendly. You can tell they’re proud of their bakery!
The coffee is really smooth and tastes great.
There are about 3–5 tables behind the counter, so no need to worry about finding a seat😉

I stumbled across Hendrickx nearly 15 years ago when I moved to Chicago. I have a knack for searching out the best croissants and bagels in any place I go and they delivered. I found myself back in Chicago recently again and could not pass on the opportunity to indulge in some plain and almond croissants and it was instant nostalgia. Same great taste, same wonderful staff, I see word catched on over the years cause there was a line at open, but after that first bite the wait was worth it. The next time I return to Chicago I’ll definitely swing by for another.

I found this cute little place and the pastries were absolutely delicious will absolutely be back to try others and some of the breads. But I had the most disappointing iced vanilla latte ever. There was like 80% foam and barely any drink. If I order a latte I want the whole thing to fill the cup not an espresso worth of drinkable beverage.

The food will absolutely have me back but I will not be getting coffee next time.

The croissants are very basic- they don't have the flakey layers like a traditional croissant has. Wouldn't necessarily go out of my way again to come here.
