Great atmosphere and food is good. We may have come at a weird time but waited for 30-40 minutes for food without any updates.

The restaurant has a great location right on Michigan Avenue, but the food didn’t meet expectations. Waiting time about 40-60 minutes. The order shrimp tempura came out dry and overcooked, more like a 3/10. The Tom Yum soup was also disappointing, with raw vegetables and none of the real Thai flavor 4/10. The atmosphere 4/10. Service and food quality need improvement.

Fresh Asian food. Friendly, casual, and good prices. Update: As other restaurants' prices have skyrocketed, Hot Woks remains a really good value. The service is outstanding and there's usually not a wait. I love this place.

Worst Miso soup I have ever had. There was barely any tofu or seaweed in the soup. The broth separated into cloudy and clear, tasting very bland. Egg rolls were double wrapped which made for doughy consistency on inside. Egg rolls are usually good. Today was a bad egg roll day. As for the soup first time trying it there, won’t order soup again.

Great comfort food here! I had a chicken Pad Thai which tasted great and was prepared quickly. This is a nice casual spot to get a reliable lunch.

Restaurantji Recommends
Hot Wok Cool Sushi by Millennium Park is one of those restaurants that makes you want to plan your next visit before you even leave. We started with the miso soup — light, savory, and exactly the comfort you want to begin a meal. The crab Rangoon was crisp, golden, and generously filled, not the skimpy version you sometimes find elsewhere.
For sushi, the roll we ordered was fresh, beautifully crafted, and packed with flavor — you could taste the quality right away. We also shared the cashew chicken, which was perfectly cooked with a balance of sweet and savory, loaded with tender chicken and crunchy cashews. Every dish had its own personality, but they all came together in a way that felt consistent and delicious.
Prices are very fair for being right in the heart of Chicago, especially considering the quality of food and service. By fair I mean not expensive! The location is unbeatable — steps away from Millennium Park and the Art Institute — making it an ideal stop before or after exploring the city.
Between the great food, accessible prices, and convenient location, Hot Wok Cool Sushi is the kind of spot that turns into a regular favorite. Highly recommend it!

Hot Woks Cool Sushi is a Chicago favorite that blends creativity, flavor, and value in a way that’s hard to beat. Many sushi restaurants either lean toward being pricey or leave you wishing for more — this spot manages to offer both delicious, high-quality food and very accessible prices.
The sushi menu covers everything from traditional rolls to signature creations that feel fresh and inventive. The fish is consistently fresh, the rolls are well-balanced, and the presentation is clean but not pretentious. Just as impressive are the wok dishes, which come out hot, generously portioned, and full of bold flavor. Whether you’re after a comforting noodle bowl, a stir fry, or something lighter like sashimi, you’ll leave satisfied without spending too much.
Where Hot Woks Cool Sushi really shines is in the overall value. You can enjoy a proper sushi night without the sticker shock that often comes with dining out in Chicago. Even the drinks are priced fairly — the shot of Suntory is only $7.95, which is almost unheard of in the city. That small detail alone shows that they care about making the experience accessible while still delivering quality.
The atmosphere is lively and modern but still casual enough that you can bring family, meet up with friends, or enjoy a laid-back date night. The staff is attentive, friendly, and always ready with helpful recommendations if you’re unsure what to try.
All in all, Hot Woks Cool Sushi delivers fresh, flavorful dishes, creative rolls, hearty wok meals, and drinks at prices that won’t break the bank. It’s a place you can visit often without guilt — and every time, you’ll leave full, happy, and already planning your next trip back.

Very good food and good service
Found out that this place had Bento boxes so I wanted to give it a try.
The bento box had some great variety with its vegetables, salmon, rice, and salad. It was quite satisfying and delicious, to the point that I was eating their Tempura broccoli, and I hate broccoli! I later brought my brother to the location and tried a steak bento instead, once again quite satisfied, and he liked it as well, he got a sushi roll which he complimented.
We also tried the Mousse cake and were shocked at how good it was, and for the price it's basically become a staple order.
I was quite concerned about paying since I don't usually take my card to places, I like to pay with tap, but they had portable tap which made it convenient and easy to pay.
Overall, a great place to get some good sushi!
