In-On Thai is truly the hidden gem of Chicago's Thai food scene. This family-run establishment offers the most authentic Bangkok-style cuisine I've experienced outside of Thailand. The husband-and-wife team who run the place are incredibly warm and attentive, often stopping by tables to chat and make recommendations.
Their Panang curry is legendary and their green curry might be the best in the city. The pad see ew has perfect wok hei flavor, and their crispy fish with jungle salad is a unique must-try. Don't skip crab wontons and papaya salad as starters - they're exceptional. Everything is made from scratch, and you can taste the freshness and care in every dish.
The restaurant itself is small and cozy with a cute ambiance. It's BYOB (conveniently, there's a liquor store next door), and the prices are very reasonable for the quality. The food comes out surprisingly fast, and portions are generous.
What sets In-On Thai apart is not just the food but the consistency - I've never had a disappointing meal here. Whether dining in or taking out, the quality remains top-notch. Just remember to buzz in when you arrive!
-Try the dishes at Thai spicy level if you're brave
-Don't miss their homemade peanut sauce
-Parking available, but watch out for pigeons under the L tracks!
Without a doubt, this is some of the best Thai food in Chicago. Five stars aren't enough!
Vegetarian options: In-On Thai offers excellent vegetarian options with many dishes that can be made with tofu instead of meat. Their crispy tofu with curry sauce is outstanding, and the deep-fried tofu appetizer is perfectly crispy outside and silky inside. The tofu Pad Thai and Pad See Ew are delicious vegetarian alternatives to the classic dishes. Their green and Massaman curries can be ordered vegetarian-style with tofu and extra vegetables, including authentic Thai eggplant. The papaya salad (som tum) is a fresh, vibrant vegetarian option, and they're always accommodating with customizing dishes to be vegetarian-friendly. The kitchen is happy to adjust spice levels to your preference, and the homemade peanut sauce pairs wonderfully with their vegetarian dishes.

Food was hit or miss and the waitress was rude. We ordered -
- Satay chicken: this was good, chicken was tender and the peanut sauce was good
- Tofu w/sweet chilli: also good, fried well
- Curry puff: this was not great and I would not recommend. It was very sweet, the pastry was not flaky and it was hard.
- Red curry: had good flavors, spicy
- Pad Khee Mao: spicy and tasty, there was great char on the noodles
- Pad See Ew: this was awful, I would not recommend ordering this. Maybe it was an off night but I've had much better elsewhere.
I would've been willing to come back and give it a try a second time if it weren't for the awful service. The food wasn't that good and there are better Thai places.

This is the BEST THAI FOOD EVER!! I’ve had Thai all over Chicago and beyond and nothing compares to them. The green curry, crispy special fish, pad Thai are simply amazing. I have never had a bad thing on their menu and wish I could give this place 100 stars. They are incredibly sweet and the food comes out crazy fast. Everything is from scratch and a husband/wife run it. They truly know what they are doing! Also it’s BYOB :) everyone needs to go here, you will not be disappointed!

DO NOT DINE-IN: The food I ordered was good, but didn't outweigh how poorly I have been treated on MORE than occasion.
The first time I went, I went right when they opened. A friend and I were the only ones in the restaurant and we weren't welcomed or spoken to politely. The woman in the front made us feel like we were bothering her with every little thing.
A different friend and I went tonight, and sat around 7:15 PM. Same thing -- no hello, welcome, or anything of that nature. There were several other tables who were either eating or finishing up their meal. She kept hovering around our table until we were ready to order which was very uncomfortable and made me feel like I had to decide quickly.
The crab rangoon was delicious, probably one of the best I've ever had. There was no acknowledgment of when we said thank you.
When the food came, there was only one other table still in the restaurant and they were finishing up. By the time we were about 10 minutes into our meal, not even half way finished with our food, she brings up the check. Doesn't say a word, just puts it on the table and leaves.
I was shocked because I saw that both on Google reviews and their website listed that they were open until 9:30 PM. By this point it is 8:00PM and we are the only people in the restaurant She comes back for the check but we haven't paid yet and she is visibly annoyed. I asked what time they close, to which she says "8:30." I said that online said says they close at 9:30, and she responds with, "well we are a family owned business so when it gets slower we close early because we want to go home." Thats all fine and good -- but when there are paying customers still in your restaurant, and pick-up orders still coming through, that is wildly unprofessional.
Mind you, cooks from the kitchen kept coming out to look at us.
We continue eating for a few more minutes until she starts stacking the chairs on the tables, which is when we decide to leave. As we are packing our HALF-EATEN PLATES, a party of four rings the bell to be let in (yes, there is a buzzer to be let into the establishment.) She LET THEM IN, SAT THEM, TOOK THEIR ORDER, right after making us leave.
I highly suggest you DO NOT DINE-IN, what a HORRIBLE experience.

Like others have said, rang the door to get in and was stared at by a woman who did not open the door or even gesture to us.
I brought my parents here because I had been before but apparently we aren't allowed to eat. The open sign was on and the woman inside walked up to the door and just stared at me like a psycho.

Nice little place, you have to buzz in. Careful parking under the train. Pigeon likes to poop on freshly washed cars.

Went here on Father’s Day, arrived 20 minutes after they were supposed to open and they were closed with no sign or posted hours. Drove a long way to get there, and will never return.
Been there plenty of times and they have the best pad Thai in town and would recommend the Thai ice tea, it's better than any other places

A great Thai place with a very friendly vibe. The owners are super nice and genuinely take care of you ! I liked the food overall and while it’s good, it’s not my fav Thai place this side of Chicago yet. Of the dishes I tried, I must say the beef and rice was great. The chef recommends trying the curries during my next visit, so adding it to my list for when I am back here again.

I read the reviews and decided to try this place out. I had the BBQ Pork Fried Rice and Pad Thai. The taste was pretty mediocre, wasn't delectable but wasn't bad either. The Pad Thai's portion is definitely not worth the price. I did the math and they charged 12.46% of tax/fee for a to-go order. The staff was friendly.
Overall 6/10. Might be back to try other dishes.
