* THIS BUSINESS IS PRO-POLICE SURVEILLANCE *Dear Jaiyen Management,I am writing to express my deep disappointment regarding the signage that you have displayed endorsing an alderman candidate who runs on a platform of pro-police brutality and increased surveillance. As a loyal customer of your restaurant, I was dismayed to see that you would support a candidate who advocates for such harmful policies.I believe that adding more police presence to our neighborhood will not help prevent crimes, especially in a safe community like ours. Increased surveillance and excessive use of force often lead to harmful outcomes and further marginalization of minority communities. Furthermore, there is no evidence to suggest that such tactics actually decrease crime rates.I understand that businesses have the right to support candidates that align with their values, but as a customer, I feel that it is my responsibility to share my concerns with you. I hope that you will reconsider your decision to support this candidate and instead advocate for policies that prioritize the safety and well-being of all community members.Thank you for taking the time to read my letter, and I look forward to continuing to support your business in the future.
I have always loved Jai-yen. It is my favorite sushi place in the city. I have been going there since 2007.However this evening I placed an order and it didn't arrive by the expected time given. Fifteen minutes after the estimated time I called to find out that my order hadn't even left the restaurant. I was assured that my order was on the way. I live 10 minutes away. 30 minutes after my first call my order still hadn't arrived so I called again to find out that it STILL wasn't ready. The whole experience ruined my night. An hour and a 45 minutes experience of bad customer sevice lost you a loyal customer of 15 years.
Got the teriyaki chicken. Chicken was over cooked (cooked twice?), and the sauce was more thinner than chicken soup -- and yes I know sauces thicken up as they cool, but room temperature sauce looked like this. I genuinely couldn't eat it and had to through it out. Egg rolls are good though.
It's so hard to choose what to eat from their menu! Always tasty, my favorite sushi spot so far.
right now it is only available for take out or delivery. They have lunch special which is quite cost-effective.The food is delicious in general but not stunning.
I had to plan an affair and used a Groupon voucher. Food was delivered on time and hot. Flavor was authentic and enjoyable. Large group of diverseguests all enjoyed the food.
Consistent and delicious take out. I recommend Thai spicy basil.
Sushi was thrown loosely into generic takeout containers and then put in a bag vertically so they clumped together at the bottom, nigiri all fell apart, anything with fish was rubbery, sashimi all tasted the same. Ginger was watery. Wasabi was OK. Tuna tataki was OK. Veggie roll was fine. Only included 1 pair of chopsticks on a 16pc order. Overall this place is terrible. Not sure how they stay in business with so many other sushi joints around.
Some of the best sushi I’ve had in Chicago; very fresh, flavorful, great value! We had the Baby Bear, Green Turtle, and some nigiri, everything was so delicious! Note: Through covid it’s take out only.
Reasonable priced, consistently good food and prompt service is what keeps me coming back to this neighborhood gem.

I really wanted to like this place. We ordered 2 lunch specials, chicken and beef teriyaki with soup, salad and rice. They also come with Cali roll. The miso soup was nice, the sushi was so bland I didn't finish mine, and I was hungry. The chicken was the driest I have ever been served and the scent coming off of it wasn't good. Teriyaki is usually a favourite. My husband agreed it was all pretty whatever, I found it mostly inedible. Glad it was discounted for the first order but we won't be back.
I ordered chicken teriyaki and a baby bear roll for Uber eats delivery last week. The next day I fell ill. After nearly a week, it was shown through lab results that I had salmonella poisoning. I barely ate for a week and missed thanksgiving dinner for what truly was sub par food to begin with. I didn’t even receive a refund.
Commonly forget utensils unfortunately. Ordered from here twice, sushi and miso soup, no chopsticks no spoon. Ate the sushi as finger food which was messy. The food was OK.
Good food and good customer service
Extremely tasty food (Hawaiian fried rice is my personal fave), extremely friendly staff always willing to help and go above and beyond. Absolutely love this place.I’ve tried a bit of every piece of the menu (noodles, rice, sushi, appetizers, etc.) and have not been disappointed yet. Highly recommend.
