Dear Joyee Restaurant Management,
I am writing to express serious concern regarding the quality of service and treatment I received during multiple visits to your Chinatown location over the past several weeks. I have visited your restaurant three times within the last three weeks, and on each occasion I experienced significant issues with both the service and the handling of my food orders.
During my first two visits, my waiter made mistakes with my order. On the most recent visit this week, I again received the same waiter, who repeated the same errors. I ordered vegetable fried rice, no mushrooms, spicy, with sweet-and-sour sauce. Despite being clear about my request, my dish was served with mushrooms, and the sweet-and-sour sauce was missing—twice. When the order was corrected and returned, the portion was substantially smaller than usual, even though the price remained the same ($17). My friend also received noticeably less food for their chicken vegetable fried rice than on previous visits.
Across all three visits, I felt the quality and attentiveness of the service declined. I could not help but feel that I may have been treated differently than other customers. I am of Native American, German, Irish-Jewish, and Cuban heritage, and I noticed that most patrons in the restaurant appeared to be of darker or Latino descent. I sincerely hope that bias or prejudice is not a factor in the way customers are treated, but I must raise that concern because of how the repeated mistakes and dismissive service made me feel.
I have spent well over $400 in total at your establishment in just three visits, and I expected to be treated with the same courtesy, respect, and value that every paying customer deserves.
I am requesting:
A written explanation for the repeated order errors and portion discrepancies.
Confirmation that all customers, regardless of background, are treated equally and fairly.
A refund or meal credit to reflect the poor service and incorrect orders I experienced.
If I do not receive a response within 14 days, I will consider filing a formal complaint with the Illinois Department of Human Rights regarding unequal treatment and with the Better Business Bureau regarding poor customer service.
I hope we can resolve this matter respectfully. I have enjoyed Joyee’s food in the past and would like to continue being a customer, provided these issues are addressed appropriately.

The portions are great and the price is ok. I just think my beef bulgogi was way too sweet and not very authentic. The chicken noodles were good!

Place looks really good and has a lot of variety but my experience was not good. The pork dumplings were great a five star, the vermicellis was not good at all, meats are really chewy and it did not taste good, chicken or beef. The thai tea with tapioca tasted like water. Good atmosphere, but would not go back.

We’ve been coming here for years and actually ordering the same few things for years. Unfortunately this was the first time that we’ve ever been disappointed in our meal. Unsure if the cashier tonight was new to the the role or what as it’s usually a younger guy on phones and at the register (the regulars know). We placed an order for Thai basil rice with shrimp instead of chicken, crab Rangoon and chicken lo mein. NOW, there seemed to be a bit of communication barrier so we repeated the order 3 times and confirmed it with the cashier. Once we got there ofc the bag was stapled and process was normal; however after getting home we noticed that the Thai basil rice with shrimp looks nothing like the one we usually get and it sucks because not only do we live 45 mins away but now they’re closed and we have to venture out for dinner. Anyways, lesson learned, bust open those staples infront of the cashier before leaving the restaurant to ensure your food was made correctly. To be fair and honest all was made correctly with the exception of the Thai basil rice. I’ve attached what we received vs what we are used to.

Drinks were good. Food is hit or miss. Service was a low point. We asked waiter to split the check prior to ordering and as we ordered, yet they handed our group just one check and told us to divide it amongst ourselves because it's too much work for them.

Dishes that are normally vegan by default have fish sauce and server informed me that nothing could be modified because everything was premade. Ingredients are not listed on the menu. Server said only garlic tofu and broccoli could be made vegan. With a good vegan restaurant in the same plaza, I don’t think this qualifies to be be on Happy Cow at all.

Joy Yee is an absolute gem for Asian cuisine! The menu is extensive, with everything from bubble tea to delicious noodle dishes. I loved the vibrant flavors and generous portions—perfect for sharing. The service was quick, and the food came out fresh and hot. It’s always busy, but worth the wait. Highly recommend if you’re in the mood for authentic, tasty Asian food!
