Got the omakase. The first half was great! Loved the first half. After the second half it was regular foods, simple sushi/nigiri. I was expecting more customization like the first half. At $90 I expected to be wowed the whole time but it definitely got mediocre after the shooters. We got their toro from the today's special and that alone was better than the omakase.**Overall would come back but not for omakase.

It was okay. Nothing too fancy that I haven't tried. I was hoping they have O Toro. I had better blue fin Tuna.

GREAT restaurant! We loved Kai Zan! It is such a cute date night spot, very unassuming location but plenty of parking available and the inside is very nice! The menu is innovative and so delicious! High recommend the mussels, the pearls, the special tuna belly was some of the best tuna we’ve ever had! The service was fantastic and top notch and we loved everything we had. We can’t wait to go back! We recommend this to anyone who is a sushi lover (not if you just want rolls though)!

Amazing omakase! Such a great experience especially for the price. Read some comments about it not being filling enough but I was stuffed until the next evening lol.

I talk about this restaurant a lot.I got the omakase and everything was fresh and flavorful and a bargain. The server was attentive and very polite. I really like how they replace your plates between each course. Makes it feel very special.

I never really think much of the service and atmosphere ratings here on Google reviews but both at Kai Zan truly were top notch. As a birthday gift, my brother took me to try omakase for the first time, and it was a very cool food experience. Seeing the chefs and waiters and hosts do their thing was like watching a performance. I watched as the staff meticulously reset the table for the next people - everything perfectly placed down to the centimeter. The way they’re able to time everything is incredible too.My favorite of the courses was the very first and the shooters - very unique. The others were good but I appreciated the creativity of those. Very beautiful dishes and we were seated at the bar so we had a front row seat to watching the chefs cook (highly recommend). We also ordered the yuzu cheesecake and ube pound cake (unlisted) for dessert. At the end I wasn’t stuffed but I was content. A really great first omakase experience!

Wow! What an experience. Food was amazing, some of the best I’ve ever had in Chicago and certainly the best sushi! The Wagyu fried rice was incredible, but the mussels stole the show - a must order. Would skip the oyster/scallop shots, but everything else was perfect. Thank you Kai Zan!
