We were given pork dumplings instead of vegan dumplings. When we brought this to our server’s attention, she tried to convince us that they were vegetarian by bringing out an unopened bag of frozen, store bought, vegetarian dumplings from the back for us to look at the ingredients. Those were very clearly not what were served to us and we had to make our point several times and literally dissect the dumpling in front of her before she conceded and ended up sending out the correct order, which at the point frankly we were not thrilled at the thought of spending $10 for a few frozen store bought dumplings. Not to mention, there was very little acknowledgement that they served pork to 2 people who do not eat meat.

Lastly, the service was extremely slow despite it being a tiny place and us being there around opening at 5. They waited about 30 mins after my friend ordered his meal to tell him they were out of it. We ended up spending almost 2 hours here with me having to motion our server over every time to get her attention.

I wish after all of this that I enjoyed my main meal, however I have never had such flavorless drunken noodles in my life. It was served with ramen noodles with little to no sauce, unseasoned tofu, and hardly sautéed veggies. My friend got the tofu stirfry and could not even eat it because it had no flavor. While I always want to support a newer thai spot, I can’t recommend this spot in good faith when there are so many other good Thai spots around.

I visited this restaurant for the first time two days ago. The server was polite and helpful. Unfortunately there was minimal air-conditioning, so it was rather warm inside. I ordered the green curry chicken. It was overly spicy and with a very small portion of chicken. Definitely not worth the price. There are three Thai restaurants within a few blocks of this restaurant. This is definitely number three on the list.

We had an absolutely perfect Monday night dinner for two. Getting a reservation was easy and we felt immediately welcomed. Kanlaya offers an intimate and comfortable setting with friendly, personable service from the owner (and chef) herself. Her love and care is very palpable and helped set the tone for a wonderful dining experience.

The food was perfect: well balanced and delicately flavorful with deceptively large portions and beautiful presentation. I've had a fair amount of Thai food over the years and this is among the absolute best. My only regret was not being able to try everything that caught my eye the first time around.

Very highly recommended.

A friend & I had a lovely dine in experience at this small Thai restaurant . The food was fresh , came steaming hot and super tasty. We enjoyed the dumplings, chicken pad Thai & seafood curry. The Thai iced tea was smoothie like & refreshing . It served as desert . Next time will try the mango sticky rice. Service was great also.

Don’t sleep on this hidden gem! The food was one of the best I’ve had! The service was beyond amazing! We had a party of 7 that included someone needed accessibility and the team at the restaurant went above and beyond to make sure we felt comfortable. The food was so good we left no crumbs, literally! Can’t wait to come back!

Hands down the best Thai food in Lincoln Square. Panang Curry and potstickers are absolute fire.
