Since 1991. Took my kid for their 25th birthday. Their choice. Been going here since they were a baby! Super kind staff welcomed us home.

Kopi Cafe feels like it has been gently collecting stories for years.

We grabbed three coffees to go and every one hit beautifully. Smooth, full of depth and clearly made with care. Even as takeout, it felt considered rather than churned out.

The space itself is where it really shines. Rich red walls, low wooden tables, cushions on the floor and that brilliant stretch of window seating looking out onto Clark Street. You can perch there and watch the world pass while feeling wrapped up in your own little pocket of calm. It has that unpolished, creative energy that makes you want to stay longer than you meant to.

Then you wander into the back and it shifts again. Glass cases of jewellery, rails of clothing, trinkets and handmade pieces that feel discovered rather than stocked. It is not a side hustle gift rack. It is part of the identity. A little bohemian treasure trove tucked behind the coffee bar.

This place has personality. Not curated cool. Not try hard quirky. Just layered and warm with a creative soul.
Next time I am claiming that window seat and staying awhile.

The golden milk espresso was really good, and my wife enjoyed her Mexican hot chocolate latte. Our 9 year old loved her white cow (raspberry cream soda float).

Really cute little sit down cafe with a shop in the back when I went. Was really nice to look around at the items for sale. Lots of vegetarian options but some of the vegan options are lacking, and would love if some labeling was clear. Server however was great and made accomodations for me. Had the soup of the day, mushroom and barely with a baguette and it was quite tasty on a cold winter day. The croissant sandwiches my friends had were reportedly tasty as well and they have a lot of good drink options.

Highly recommend the golden milk as a tasty & unique decaffeinated option. The gift shop was a nice surprise with super funky jewelry and trinkets. Will definitely be back!

Really cozy cafe with lots of decorative items, including a small area to browse and shop! I got the Salmon Davis sandwich and it was really good.

Just a bit pricey overall I think but they have lots of vegan and vegetarian options, and they’re breakfast options are cheaper than their lunch options

Such a fun atmosphere, the service friendly and excellent! The food was yummy, especially the bread pudding with caramelized cinnamon and caramel drizzle with vanilla ice cream is amazing! So glad we found this quaint Cafe!

Rewriting my review that got deleted:
One of the worst restaurant experiences I’ve ever had.

From the moment I walked in, the owner’s wife was consistently condescending and dismissive. I had originally been excited to become a regular at Kopi — I love the Beatles, I love Buddhist décor, and I’ve bought several of their more expensive pieces. I genuinely wanted to support this business.

One day, I sat in the enclosed “No Chair” area, where many of my favorite items were displayed. The owner’s wife rushed toward me and sharply informed me that “no one can sit there because of COVID.” It felt unnecessarily aggressive, and she didn’t offer an alternative, an apology, or even basic courtesy. I had spent more on art that day than many tables combined, yet was treated like an inconvenience.

I tried to give the benefit of the doubt — restaurants can be stressful — and the male owner kindly wiped down another table for me, which I appreciated.

But the next visits confirmed a pattern. I sat in the same area again, and this time another customer — a white man — was allowed to sit there without issue. No warning, no comment. I brushed it off.

A few days later, I returned and sat in that same space. Another woman walked in (also white), and the owner’s wife welcomed her warmly and even offered to “set up plants as a barrier” so she could sit there comfortably. That level of consideration was never extended to me, even when I was alone and the café wasn’t busy. The contrast was impossible to ignore.

It felt especially disappointing because Kopi’s entire theme revolves around travel, culture, and the idea of compassion. Yet my experiences there felt exclusionary and dismissive — completely at odds with the image the shop projects.

I also ordered their vegan burger for the first time. It was expensive, and unfortunately the quality did not justify the price. It came with tortilla chips instead of fries, which felt cheap, and shortly after eating it I experienced severe stomach pain. I had to leave early, cancel my plans, and find a restroom immediately. It was genuinely one of the worst stomach aches I’ve ever had.

I had really hoped to become a loyal customer — I loved their pastries and I always tipped generously — but after several visits, both the service and the food were consistently disappointing. The vibe felt curated rather than genuine, and my treatment made me feel unwelcome and uncomfortable.

To the staff members who were kind: this is not directed at you.
But overall, Kopi was a deeply disheartening and unpleasant experience for me, and I won’t be returning.

If my review gets taken down again, I will gladly rewrite it as many times as necessary :)

BTW: I will be reporting this to the BBB

Kopi Cafe looked so promising. From the outside, it felt warm and inviting with a charming atmosphere, a welcoming staff, and a menu that seemed full of great options. We got seated fairly quickly, only about a 15-minute wait, which was impressive for how busy it was. The drink list alone was enough to grab our attention with a full page of creative options.

I ordered the Green and Bleu Salad and a Matcha Freeze. The matcha was easily one of the best I’ve ever had. If you even slightly like matcha, get the freeze. It was incredible. Unfortunately, that was the high point. The salad was fine but underwhelming, with way too much arugula and barely any bleu cheese or pears.

My friends’ meals didn’t fare much better. One ordered an espresso that came out burnt, which was surprising given how seasoned their barista seemed. She also got the tofu scramble, but it was more of a stir fry, just cubes of tofu with some veggies mixed in. My other friend ordered the Egg Hugo and was disappointed in how small the portion was.

That brings me to the price. Each of us paid over $30 for one entrée and a drink, and none of us left feeling satisfied with the quality. Service wasn’t terrible, but it wasn’t great either. I get that it was a busy day, but we sat for nearly 30 minutes without being checked on and eventually had to wave down our server just to pay.

All in all, Kopi Cafe fell short of expectations. The vibe and drinks were great, but the food and service didn’t live up to the hype or the price tag. I’d mention it to tourists, but not without a fair warning.
