I'll give this place a five star when their sewage stops flooding the restaurant. Would literally sell food within 5 feet of raw sewer water

Umami burger is an easy place to grab a quick bite. Don't really see this place get crowded and service is pretty good too. Pricing is a bit high but you're also in west loop. Burgers are decent. Chicken tenders have a good breading. Fries are pretty good too. Nothing sticks out to make this place special but it's not terrible either.

I have had my eye on the Wicker Park location for sometime being that I have ordered at a neighboring restaurant. It is closer to me than this location, but also located in a congested Wicker Park neighborhood which I have little tolerance for driving through at times. I chose this location because I have an interest in visiting more restaurants in the West Loop - Fulton Market District which in my opinion is a foodies paradise. I chose to order takeout via Yelp which is very convenient if you know what you want beforehand. Other than all of the desserts the two main items on the menu that had my interest are the Impossible Classic Burger, and the Impossible Truffle Burger. The menu online was very easy to navigate through consisting of everything in order and pictured. I ended up ordering the Impossible Classic Burger, and the Chocolate Cake. I felt that I lucked up with parking because there were vehicles flowing in-and-out of the parking space outside of the restaurant. I don't even want to imagine what parking in the area is like during the daytime as well as afternoon, but keep in mind that the CTA train is easily accessible in the area. As I went in to grab my food I could not help but get a glimpse of the interior which has a bar-like vibe with a couple televisions plastered up. I was acknowledged immediately after I walked in the door. And as quickly as I entered, stating "I have a pick-up for Thomas" to the employee the quicker I left with my order which was already bagged up. I totally devoured the Impossible Classic Burger, and the Chocolate Cake. I have had a handful of Impossible Burgers and it's hard to gauge who has the better one out of the restaurants eaten at, but I do rank this version high. All were tasty in their own way and certainly did not disappoint. As for the Chocolate Cake there was no exception because I had the biggest smirk on my face as I scooped and ate each piece of that chocolatey piece of heaven with my fork. The next day whether it be in the gym, running, or biking best believe I have some calories to burn from this meal which I enjoyed. In closing I had a pleasant ordering experience with Umami Burger - West Loop. I would surely order from again on a different date. ~Blessings~ Thomas G

YUM. Their classic burger, thin fries, and sweet potato fries really hit the spot. I ordered takeout online, and it was an easy process. The time estimate was initially 15 minutes but I got there 25 minutes after I ordered, and that's actually when they finished the order and brought it out! (The full order was 2 burgers, 2 fries). We added avocado to our burgers and wow the whole thing was so juicy, with the caramelized onions and melted cheese with the tender beef patty. The brioche bun added a luxuriously fluffy texture. The fries. THE FRIES Y'ALL. Perfect amount of crisp. Addicting, truly. Good portion size for the price too. $3.50 for the thin fries, $4.50 for the sweet potato fries. They each come with a small container of sauce of your choosing. We had jalapeño ranch (it was actually spicy! And cooling) and truffle ketchup. I don't know what truffle actually tastes like so I couldn't tell you if it tasted like truffle. If it did, it was subtle. Regardless, the fries disappeared quick. Overall, I def recommend! If you're looking for a solid burger, this is a good spot.

Arrived at 6:45pm on a Wednesday in a group of 3. We're able to be seated immediately and were the only ones in the restaurant. Given water within 3 minutes of sitting down. So far so good, but quite a bit of waiting ensued at this point. Asked to get 1 more minute to look at menu and had to wait 10 minutes before waitress returned. Placed our order and asked for utensils to try sauces to order additional sandwiches and waited 8 minutes to get utensils. Tried sauces and waited an additional 7 minutes to place second order (made this one to go). Waited 6 more minutes and food was delivered (total 31 minutes for initial order) Initial order was a sunnyside burger, impossible burger, and 2 waffle fries. Additional order: 2 chicken sandwiches Burger was good! Good size, proportion, great sauces on the side (truffle ketchup, diablo (amazing) classic sauce, jalapeño ranch), cooked medium well like I asked, 4/5 no complaints! Waffle fries were well seasoned, not too salty, and perfectly crispy 5/5. My friend said their burger was good as well. Tables were clean, lighting dim, music at a good level and vibe, we did see a couple fruit flies. Waited 30-40 min from time of ordering for 2nd takeout order. Overall: Service was slow. Very slow, considering we were essentially the only ones in the place. I can't imagine how it would function if they had the same traffic as some of the other restaurants down the street. 2/5 The food was great, everything cooked perfectly. 4.5/5 Will definitely be back but I think I will order to pick up in the future (and it seems like they have more online orders than in person anyway). Unless you're willing to wait, I would not recommend dining in.

Huge fan of Umami. This was my first time going to the West Loop location. We dined in on a Saturday for lunch and surprisingly, we were the only ones, so it was a very peaceful, stress-free experience. We ordered fries, onion rings, and 2 burgers and as expected, everything tasted great. Server was nice and the place looks clean.

This place won't overwhelm you with portion sizes (burgers are 4 oz. before cooking), but the quality is good. I enjoyed my Umami Burger and "Manly Fries", which were topped with cheese, bacon, and scallions. No one asked how I wanted my burger cooked, but it came out medium-well, which is how I like it.

This the first stop I made after dine in reopened! I have been eyeing the truffle burger since Covid started. So obviously I had to get that. We also got the cheese burger and the truffle fries. Cheese burger was just a classic burger, nothing wrong with that but nothing stood out. Just a classic solid cheese burger. Although for the price, might as well just go to shake shack. The truffle burger was definitely more worth it. Flavor was great, truffle flavor was there, nice and juicy! Loved all the truffle components, truffle flavor really came through. The biggest issues with these burgers is their buns. The fillings are fine, exceptional even for the truffle burger, but the bun is sub par and just looks cool. Bun was cold and not soft at all. It wasn't stale I think, just dry maybe? Not sure, but the bun detracted from the experience. Fries were solid, I think they just use fries from Sysco or something, but the flavor was really good. Fries were nice and crispy. Only thing is the truffle ketchup just tasted like normal ketchup. Overall, solid place, rather order krispy rice and if you not going for a specialty burger, just head over to shake shack!

Super bummed to write this review. I was always a big fan of umami burger since they first opened in California because I used to live there. It used to be one of the best burgers and would just melt in your mouth. I think they recently re branded and I'm not sure if it is related to covid or not but their quality has gone way down. The packaging isn't as nice as it usually is, Everything arrived to us very soggy, and my boyfriends burger had barely anything on it. If you even browse through umami's photos on Instagram you can see In comparing older and new burger photos that, the burger quality has changed, they don't look the same. It seems just like fast food now compared to the high quality burger that it used to be. Not sure we'll be customers again...

I ordered pick up from here and wasn't too impressed. I got the bacon cheeseburger with truffle fries and a side of Mac n cheese. The cheeseburger had a nice tasting sauce with a well cooked patty and flavorful bacon but the bread was hard and too thick so it overwhelmed the overall balance. The fries were too thick for my taste and the cheese was hardened already even though I ate it right after picking it up. The Mac n cheese was the most disappointing as it really didn't taste like anything and instead was quite plain like noodles with nothing on it. Price wise it was pretty decent for an upscale burger place in Fulton Market at less than $20 for everything I got. Overall, it definitely wasn't the best burger and fries I've ever had but everything was very filling and higher quality than a fast food place.

Would go back for truffle fries but not sure about the burgers. My bun was a little dry in my opinion. My cheeseburger was overall a little cold, but the truffle burger was nice and warm. I appreciated the generous amount of veggies that I got in my cheeseburger. Loved the service and truffle fries tho.

Talk about a good burger! As someone who does not eat beef (or pork), its often hard to find a quality burger but I was CRAVING a burger and decided to stop by Umami Burger in West Loop because their menu mentioned their Impossible Burger. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, I was unable to dine-in, and had to order my burger to-go. However, contrary to most places, I did not have to order in advance, and the host was helpful in assisting me place my order. It essentially was a touchless process as I scanned a QR code for the menu and was able to swipe my own card using their Square system. Okay, so the food was bomb. I ordered the Classic Impossible Burger, and I had to double check my receipt because the burger very much tasted like your favorite, classic, beef burger. But it wasn't it was just a very very well prepared Impossible Burger. It was grilled to perfection and neatly topped with all the works, pickles, grilled onions, cheese, special sauce (which is like a spicy mayo) and lettuce! (I opted out of tomatoes because they just aren't my thing lol). I loved every bite of this burger. My only con, it was quite on the small side. I was absolutely full, but idk, the burger in someways felt bite size. Overall great highly recommend. Along with my burger I ordered a side of the Tempura Onion Rings. Yum! It taste like your classic onion ring,. My favorite part was that it was lightly fried but still had that good crisp/crunch. I hate when onion rings are so heavily fried all you taste is the fried batter and no good onion flavor, that is not a problem to fear at Umami Burger, they absolutely do the onion rings right! Perfect side as opposed to just fries. Overall I loved the burger, and onion rings! Tasty and quality food! I will absolutely be back when my burger cravings kick in. Go get you some!

I got it for pick up and it was pretty good, after battling with the wind to get home. The classic sauce is like a spicy mayo. The fried pickles were good but a little too salty. The bacon burger could maybe use one more strip of bacon. I was just biting into some remnants of bacon. The double cheeseburger was good. It just gets hard to keep it altogether at the end.

Review for delivery food: Ronda Rousey 's The Baddest Burger On The Planet - American wagyu beef, pickles, iceberg lettuce, thick-cut bacon, smashed avocado, bbq sauce, grilled onions There was a lot of potential for this burger. I got excited looking at the ingredients. It was super wet and very difficult to hold together. Beef was pink to medium rare, tasted good. Bacon was these awkward thick curved chunks when in my opinion, cuts of bacon should stretch across the burger for more bacon per bite. Could use more smashed avocado and crunchy lettuce. Fries were fine. I'd guess they were frozen in a bag but that's not something I'll count against them.
