The quality and taste of the assorted chocolate treats are miles above anything I’ve had in my life. Highly recommend these assortments for any occasion. Once you have them, it’s hard to stop.

Everyone was very nice and the hot chocolate was incredible. Make sure and get the large!

Truly for chocolate lovers. Gift yourself and a friend.

Thee Earl Grey Chocolate Mousse Cake is easily one of the best cakes you could ever indulge in. 🤤

LA Burdick Chocolates is a great find in River North if you’re looking for a relaxed place to meet friends without the pressure of a full sit-down restaurant.

What really sets this spot apart is the atmosphere. It has a cozy, Parisian café feel that encourages you to slow down—warm, inviting, and ideal for long conversations. It’s the kind of place where you can comfortably linger with a group and not feel rushed out, which is surprisingly hard to find in this area.

We focused on their drinking chocolates and pastries, and both were solid. The drinking chocolate selection is impressive, with options like spiced dark chocolate, the Burdick signature, and mocha. You can customize each with dark, milk, or white chocolate, which is a nice touch. Among our group, the spiced dark chocolate was the clear favorite—rich, warming, and well balanced without being overly sweet.

For food, we tried a few of their artisanal pastries, including the pecan croissant, the signature Burdick cookie, and the orange hazelnut pastry. The orange hazelnut stood out the most, offering a nice balance of citrus and nuttiness without feeling heavy. Everything felt thoughtfully made and paired well with the drinks.

Overall, LA Burdick Chocolates works best as a casual hangout spot—perfect for catching up with friends, low-key meetups, or an easy coffee-and-dessert stop. If you’re in River North and want a calm, European-style café experience centered around quality chocolate and pastries, this is a reliable choice.

Excellent place to stop on a cold afternoon for some delicious hot chocolate and cake. Very nice atmosphere and great service to go with the drinks and chocolate desserts. We go every time we are in town.

Delicious! We had two hot chocolates and pastries, all wonderful!

Exceptional chocolates… although, the staff
was very rude towards customers and hospitality was substandard

My husband, a family member, and I decided to try this cafe. Unfortunately, our experience was terrible. The hot chocolate tasted burnt, sour, and had off-flavors, while the chocolate itself was poor quality, unpleasant, and had a gritty texture. Both the hot chocolate and chocolate were overpriced. A few staff members were friendly, but that was the only positive. Overall, it was a waste of money, and I would not recommend this place.

LA Burdick has the best hot chocolate I’ve ever had in my life. Thick, rich, and perfectly sweet without being overpowering. I also tried the hazelnut chocolate and it was absolutely incredible. I went in with zero expectations and left completely amazed. I truly can’t recommend this place enough — a must if you love chocolate. 🍫✨

Nice place, quiet, relaxed but… expensive for an acid sour expresso and mid-low range quality chocolate raspberry and burdick cake.

A fun and fancy chocolate and dessert shop near the Magnificent mile. They’ve got lots of artisanal chocolates on sale and their famous chocolate chip cookie and hot chocolate pair excellent. For me personally the chocolate was almost too rich in both dishes, but I can easily see why someone who would like that profile would find this unbeatable. Super limited seating indoors - but you can easily take it to go. The staff are super friendly and helpful.

Fun environment, delicious chocolate and hot chocolate! Particularly nice to visit during Christmas time with all of the decorations!

This is the absolute best hot chocolate in Chicago. My favorite is the milk hot chocolate: it’s thick, creamy, and perfectly sweet with a strong chocolate flavor. The pastries are just okay so I wouldn’t necessarily recommend those, but the hot chocolate is AMAZING. As a bonus, the cafe atmosphere is very cozy and charming. The perfect place to hang out with friends on a winter afternoon.
