I go to Boulangerie all the time and have for years. Sometimes Logan, sometimes California. The food is always delicious, but what I saw today was inexcusable. While sitting down for lunch with a friend, the owner/manager - whomever - thought it was appropriate to actually yell at and threaten to fire one of his employees while they were having their lunch. They did this right in front of all the customers in the dining room. That employee appears to have been later dismissed. It was extremely unprofessional and embarrassing. Why would anyone in a position of power think this was at all appropriate? Any good leader knows you discipline in private. I don’t care what the employee did, yelling at employees is never okay. Shocking to see it right there in the open in front of customers. I felt really bad for this employee, who didn’t even get to finish their lunch after being publicly humiliated. I do not think I can continue to patronize this business at any locations knowing this is how they treat their staff.

Humboldt Park used to be a matcha desert but with the addition of La Boulangerie (or Frenchie’s as my friends and I call it) I can finally get a decent matcha to go without leaving the area. Also: The oat and almond brittle cookie is outstanding and I fantasize about it.

The croissant was very very good: soft, crisp but still buttery at the any time. Interior was well maintained and clean. Macaroon were mediocre, I ended up getting 32 macarons for $88 for gifting purposes. They were too sweet for my liking.

Not so good for me. J&J much more to my taste in ambience and selection. Tried bread pudding and could barely stomach the few bites I had. Tried cherry tart and was just not impressed, thought the tart shell was factory-style and the filling too dense and lite on fruit flavor. Coffee was thick with the oils of past batches. Also, the staff was café passé.

Very small cafe area. They have an amazing selection of pastries. I had a plain croissant and wow. It reminded me of the ones I had in Paris. Ut was flaky and buttery. I would definitely go back and try others.
