I've never been to a Mexican place before that served ketchup with a carne asada dinner. It did come with a really cool looking spiral cut deep fried potato so it was like potato chips on a skewer, it was neat but it didn't taste good. They had a tasty salsa that was served with fresh fried chips when we sat down but when I asked for some salsa or hot sauce with my meal they just had bottled sauce.
We ate, and then the restaurant got full and they brought a DJ in who is playing. Really disconnected very loud music. I mean if you're into it and want a lot of mind-boggling sound while you're trying to enjoy a conversation with friends and eat dinner, go for it. Anyway, our server left us with our plates finished for about 45 minutes. He then had people waiting at the door and finally came back to like check in on us and see if we wanted our check.
Really strange place with mediocre food.

Food is alright, check your receipt and make sure you got the right change. I went yesterday and the waited brought me back $10 less and gave me the wrong receipt also when he rang it up he. Rang it up as exact change so that tells me it was on purpose

Stopped in for an afternoon refresher - this DELICIOUS tamarind michelada was everything I could ask for!!
We had some outstanding tacos here. Both braised beef and pescados were made by some people with soul.
The guy that served us was a star, handelung the whole place by himself and working like a human robot.
Beers were perfect with a great selection of mexican and south american lagers.
Definately you should give this place a try considering the city of Chicago, even with all the theater venues, closes down after 9pm in week end and places like this are quite hard to find

I enjoyed the taquitos, there's a great selection and the cost won't break the bank. The drinks are awesome, can't wait to return.

La Mejikana was pretty packed when I went, but I got a seat right away. The place had a lot of energy, the music going, people talking and laughing, just a fun atmosphere.
I ordered a few different tacos because I wanted to try a mix: carne asada, lomito, and fish. The lomito ended up being the winner. It’s marinated ribeye with a slice of panela cheese and even a thin slice of apple. I wasn’t sure how apple would work in a taco, but it actually worked, the sweetness balanced the flavor of the meat and cheese. The fish taco was also really good, fresh, crunchy, and piled with toppings. The carne asada hit that classic taco flavor, juicy and well-seasoned, exactly what I was hoping for.
Portions felt just right, filling without being over the top. Service was friendly and pretty fast considering how busy it was.
I really enjoyed this spot. Definitely a place I’d go back to and try more from the menu.

Love eating here! I had the huarache de pollo adobado and a margarita de tamarindo. My friend had a vegetarian huarache and a Oaxacan old fashioned and also enjoyed her meal.

Food was so good, and the drinks even better. I had their seasonal drink which was a gummy bear martini basically. Chips were delicious. My favorite was the empanadas with the sauce they came with. Will be coming back for more. Highly recommend if you want a good balance of good food and drinks. And the flan churro dessert was delicious.

What can I not say. The food was top tier and the service was great as well. We ordered the fish tacos, Al pastor wings, and langostinos. Will be back to try other things on the menu as well. Also not to be missed, the drink menu was extremely flavorful and well balanced.
