I’ve been to La Mejikana on multiple occasions and it has always been a great experience. The prices are a bit elevated, but this isn’t your run of the mill Mexican restaurant. There’s definitely more of a trendy/hipster feel, however the food mostly sticks to staying authentic with a bit of a twist here and there. The pastor wings are a must try! The chopped pineapple served with it has oregano and other spices that make it mouthwatering. The queso birria tacos are VERY good here. I’ve also had the burger which I thought was good for what it is (I’m a burger snob so it’s hard to please me there). The tampiqueña was tender and juicy. I’ve also had the aguachiles and stuffed pineapple which were surprisingly good considering they don’t come off as specializing in seafood. I’ve also had an asada cemitas that I enjoyed, although if you can’t get that right, the place probably isn’t that good. Drinks are decent and pretty standard city cocktail prices.
With that being said, I didn’t give a good rating because I just went yesterday and noticed they added Stuffed Chilaquiles to their menu. I was pretty excited to try these as I’ve never had chilaquiles this way. Two other people at my table also ordered them and it was a HUGE mistake. First of all they were not made with tortillas, they were made of masa. I could’ve looked past this had they actually been stuffed with cheese. There was barely any cheese in them! They also weren’t fried enough, so it felt like you were just biting into a thick piece of dough. The salsa could’ve been better, there was zero spice to it. All three of us were very underwhelmed with that experience. I figured I would bring them home to doctor them up, since we had so much leftover. That’s when I discovered that a lot of the pieces, in fact, had no cheese in them. When you’re charging so much for food, the quality really needs to be more thoroughly inspected. I’m not the person to return food, but this really ticked me off tbh

Great atmosphere, plenty of singing and dancing (in your place) food is delicious and the small space inside makes for the service to be quick and of quality

The staff was super friendly and accommodating to my vegetarian and my mother-in-law's vegan dietary restrictions, with a couple black-bean entree options plus a delicious Portobello epanada. The manager was excited to share some upcoming vegan items too! Definitely would plan to come back.

The most amazing food, atmosphere and staff. It can get kind of busy so be ready for a wait if you show up after 5. The DJ was off the charts. This space is small but so mighty!

Food was delicious! Service was 3.5/5 for both times we came but both times we came it was late in the night. Will def be back. I like that they automatically count gratuity in the checks for 5 people and the charge for inflation! Let's be real! Support local and hardworking businesses :)

I came here because social media said to check out their burger, I wasn't disappointed. Worth trying it out when you're in the area

Ate at the bar. This place is much easier to park at than the joints east of Ashland. Happy I tried something new.
Pros: Emilio and David. So cute to look at, engaging, and attentive. The salsa and chips as reviewed before, are delicious. The mescalita quenched all the thirsts. Got a fried rib meat plate. It was a seasonal special. Wasn’t a huge fan of the meat but the guacamole, tortillas, and red sauce made up for it. I would like to go back and try something vegetarians because everything veggie forward was so fresh.
Cons: the meat was a little dry. More like jerky. But like I said, the fixings made up for it.
Overall excited for a new restaurant option in this area.

I've ordered delivery from here several times. The birria tacos and churros are 10/10. The regular tacos and fries are lackluster. It's good, but it depends on what you order. A bit pricey.

Salsa is to die for! Drinks were really good and the food was good as well. I would definitely recommend this place and return if I'm in the area again.
Parking: Not sure if all street parking is paid or not. But where we parked we paid.
