About as authentic German food as you’re going to get in Chicago. The Hackepeter was sneaky delicious as the creamy saltiness of the meat and capers perfect. You have to get the sausage platter as it says something with how good the sausage were when the brat was the “worst” of the bunch because the thuringer and knackwurst were amazing. The schnitzel was great and the rouladen with the spatzel was the best thing I ate. Oh and the bacon vinegrette on the salad was perfect. And to top it all off, great selection of German beer.

If you want German comfort food, this is your place.

Used to be one of our FAVORITE places, and the service is still great, but the food has really fallen from grace since Covid. The Tar-Tar used to be a gorgeous full-plate presentation (the best anywhere) but is now just a sad few pre-spread slices of bread. It would be a shame for this iconic restaurant to continue on this path.

Hope this place NEVER changes. It has a super cozy atmosphere with friendly service. Definitely a hold out of the old German Neighborhood. Great beer selection and you get a free shot of schnapps with every dinner. Great place to hang out with friends or family, grab dinner or just pop in for a quick beer or three.

When you want some authentic German food and beer, this is the place to go. An inconspicuous entrance off Irving Park Road, Laschet’s delivers great chicken schnitzel and giant liters of German beer. Service is good and the vibe feels like a lodge. Parking is easy out front or on the side streets.

Food was really good. Had the hot sausage plate, chicken schnitzel dinner and Leberkase dinner. It was all shared among 2 adults and a child. We finished with coffee and apple strudel. When you want German food one of the must go places across Chicago.

What a disappointment this place had been for us. Besides the beer which was real good and the Herring, everything else was terrible. My husband had sauerbraten, it had white gravy on it. I'm sure out of a can. It tasted terrible. The so called German potato salad was nothing but heated up potatoes with vinegar, salt and pepper. It was some clumps of potatoes. Sauerkraut was ok. The soup, barley soup had a weird taste to it. My husband and grandson did not it . The waitress was nice, yet, gave excuses. Not worth going too. Also my husband been sick two hours after visiting. He ate maybe two ounces of the meat, which I know made him sick. The health department needs to get in there and check stuff out.

I really like this neighborhood place. Low-key but nice vibe/atmosphere. Went on a Saturday, early evening and it was bustling; But not so loud that you could still carry on a conversation. Tables in back have a decent distance between them.
Four people went two people liked the food and two people. Thought the food was okay. The 'okay' food was a dry cod sandwich and bland, overly ground meatballs. And crazy to say but the boiled potatoes were super good! No dessert.
Service was good. Waitress was great; friendly, attentive, but not in your face.
Would go back for ambience and local digs but try something different on the menu.

This is a great place for many reasons. I feel so welcomed here and always enjoy the beer selection. Love to snack on fries with curry sauce and enjoy a pretzel every now and then. My friends recommend the wings.

The goulash soup is the star of the show. You must try it. Great portion of tender beef. Seasoned well with a nice splash of spice at the end. I will come back for this soup.

The pretzel with cheese was nothing special. I would skip it and try something else next time. It was also pretty expensive.

The chicken and Wiener schnitzel were pretty good as well. I would say better than average.

The staff were nice and attentive.

Overall the portions were good. Everything was cooked well. The goulash soup was my favorite. And I would definitely come back to try more.
