Attended a very lovely wedding + reception there today (not a usual function they perform) and it was absolutely amazing! The decor, the atmosphere, the food & service were all top notch! Tres Bien!!!

Checked out advertised as “French Mediterranean, dinner. I spend in France lots time, twice a year at least. . Sad parody to French cooking. Start with the fact that they have no champaigne???? Cava , Prosecco , bla. The French restraunt???
I ordered vegetables Provençal a La gratin- very decent. Duck breast with polenta and . Mushrooms- omg!!! First , no one asked me how I want duck breast cooked. Second, dish was delivered barely warm, duck cold cuts are my dream. Had to be reheated, very rubbery! No go. Seems it was pre cooked centuries ago .mushrooms ok, polenta ok.
Red driest wine was Cabernet, totally not my fav.
All of above was v hard to digest!
As I asked for expresso and check, waiter told me their expression machine broke.
Cost of blah, barely eatable din w tip-93$.
In Paris I can have better , for 40 eu , in any bistro. I can understand now why Le Sud had open res on Saturday- after first time people avoid the place.
to top all above, old lady from table next to me, got up, set near me, put her arm around me- no kidding, and kept saying that God drawn us together, and I will have lots good things ahead if only look forward. I had asked her go back to her seat, but she insisted on talking, And hugging, until I called staff over in attempt to remove her. Is this place attract ppl escaped from cookoo nest? I would not be surprised….
Should shape up or close. This biz.

I ordered the steak & eggs — absolutely delicious! The steak was cooked to perfection and full of flavor. 🥩🔥 Definitely recommend it 100%!

Just a little note: if you order pickup to enjoy at the park or elsewhere, make sure to bring your own napkins and utensils since they weren’t included in my bag. Also, when ordering scrambled eggs, you might receive sunny side up instead — but still tasty 😁

Amazing food and incredible service. I couldn’t believe how flavorful and delicious the food was. I’ve eaten in a lot of different, and way more expensive, restaurants in Chicago. The food at Le Sud, not only rivals, but surpasses many of Chicago’s “finest.” This restaurant is a gem not to be missed.

I came here for a nice birthday dinner with my boyfriend two nights ago. It’s my second time coming here. The first time was great, but this time fell short. The atmosphere and service were wonderful, but I wasn’t a fan of the things I ate AT ALL. The French baguette we ordered came with two kinds of butter, a garlicky butter that had a bitter taste to it and a purple butter that tasted like a vinegar spread (I cannot handle the taste or smell of vinegar that dominant). The calamari were kinda sad, two little tentacles and three slices (slivers?), with some things on top of them. It was disappointing. Then my main course was the worst. I had the Rohan Farm duck. The potato fondant pieces were flavorless, the little orange triangles on the edge of the plate weren’t seared like I now see in pictures, but just put on the plate. I didn’t know if it was dried pineapple, ginger or what until I picked it up. The orange sauce ruined my dish. In looking at a photo someone else posted, I see it really should have been more like a sauce. Mine was like a THICK, sticky, hardened candy coating. I had to pull apart every bite of the duck that I took. I thought they meant for it to be like this, so I didn’t send it back and felt like maybe I should have known how sugary it would be from the menu description. The duck tasted game-y and candied, so it was hard to eat, because it was gross. The “sauce” actually became hard candy as it cooled within minutes of coming out. The garnish was all stuck in the candy glaze which hardened around it. It was obvious even looking at the plate that it had been doused in this candy glaze that was too thick and too hard as it cooled. It might be the worst meal I’ve ever felt too ashamed to send back. If it had been my first time coming, I would never come back.

My bf got the steak frites which were good, but nothing special. The black garlic aioli is not as good as a regular garlic aioli would have been.

My husband and I have been the Le Sud a few times when they first opened. We were pleasantly suprised when we revisited this past weekend. I loved to see they're adding more classic french dishes, like, Steak Frites, Croquettes, etc. The food and service was great as usual, but the prices were reasonable which is a lovely suprise these days (no scam fees on the final bill either). The Chistmas decor was incredible too. It seems like management is really putting in the effort, and it shows. Definitely recommend.
