LeSud absolutely delivered! We came with a large group and somehow managed to try what felt like the whole menu, and every single dish was excellent. The menu is extensive without feeling overwhelming, and it’s clear there’s real care put into both flavor and presentation.

The food struck that perfect balance of comforting and elevated. Nothing felt rushed or phoned in, even with our group size. Service was warm, attentive, and genuinely accommodating, which makes such a difference when you’re dining with a crowd.

The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, the kind of place that makes you want to linger over another glass of wine and order “just one more thing.”

An easy neighborhood favorite and absolutely worth returning to whether for a special night out or a casual dinner with friends.

This place was so cute and neighborly. The food was excellent mostly because I couldn’t taste a thing, was sooooo in awe of the decoration. We regret that we didn’t go here before Christmas and will definitely go to check out their Valentine’s Day set up.

Le Sud? More like Le Dud. We chose this as a birthday dinner for my partner and it was disappointing from start to finish. Noticed a dirty chair as we were sitting, then noticed lipstick stains on a water glass just as one guest at my table was about to sip it, then I noticed on the table right in front of me was smeared schmutz from the previous diners (I assume because we had not had any food yet). Not to mention my foot was sticking to the floor beneath the table. So, was already thoroughly disgusted by the time the food came out I could barely eat it. I had been hoping, though, that the food would redeem this whole situation up to this point, but it truly was very underwhelming, especially for the price point. When the (dirty, stained) dessert menu arrived, I think all of us were resigned enough to assume it too would fail to impress, and my partner didn’t even order dessert on their birthday because the unkempt atmosphere just didn’t make it appetizing or fill them with confidence enough to bother. Quite disappointing in both food and service; certainly not what you’d expect for the price range. The hostess was nice, though.

My business partner, and I had the steak au poivre special and we both were commenting. It’s one of the best meals we’ve had in Chicago! The food was exceptional. The service was even better and the atmosphere was perfection. Honestly, it was really something I would recommend to anyone who wanted a special evening out a spectacular spectacular evening . Le Sud is an absolute gem.

This review is strictly about the owner Sandy and the manager Aaron. Our server Mark was amazing, the only reason we decided to stay.

Two months ago I reserved a space in the semi private front room for my company holiday party of 10. Sandy was helpful via email and sent me the invoice where I paid a deposit to reserve the front room. Everything was looking good, until we arrived. Was instructed to ask for Aaron when I arrived and was given some of the worst attitude I’ve ever experienced at a restaurant. He said he had never heard of us and went on to treat us like we were a huge burden. I asked to speak with Sandy who “was upstairs” but she never came down. Aaron told me the private room was reserved for a bigger group and let me know they had a table in the main dining area which we could have, and of course it was surrounded by screaming kids which is what I was trying to avoid by reserving the large room.

Mark was amazing and really kept the mood light during the dinner and took great care of us. But when I got the bill at the end of the meal, not only did it not have any type of discount, it still had the $50 admin fee they charge when you book a large party. I had to ask Aaron to remove it considering they didn’t have our reservation, and when I also asked if he wanted to offer any type of discount for completely botching out reservation, he acted very annoyed and unwilling. After some arguing back and forth which seems ridiculous in this situation he offered a very small discount. Really poor interaction.

The icing on the cake was the next day when I emailed Sandy to let her know of my experience. Her very first response was to try and tell me I didn’t reserve that room and that my reservation was just a regular party of 10. It was only after I sent her a copy of the invoice did she attempt a poor apology and to pretend like she cared.

We really used to like this place, and wasn’t looking for any special treatment, just an acknowledgment of their mistake and maybe an attempt to make it right in the moment. Some of the worse customer service I’ve ever experienced at a restaurant, and will not be returning.

We had a reservation for 7 on a Tuesday in December. It was busy and a little cramped and we were unfortunately sat next to one of the side doors that leads outside so we were sort of cold. Our waitress was very pleasant and the service was good.
The Tuesday special is a deal: two entrees an appetizer and a dessert for 65$.
So what did we get?
The French onion soup was only decent. It was a bit on the sweet side and I didn't care for it really, sort of disappointing.
The burrata salad: fresh mozzarella and fresh greens but nothing spectacular.
I was initially served the wrong steak dish: the steak frites. The fries were just unacceptable, they tasted like they came out of the freezer. And the steak was way too tough and stringy. The lemon garlic aioli was also disappointing.
However, I was able to quickly get this replaced with the menu item I actually wanted: the steak au poivre, which was delicious and by far the best item on the menu. The filet was tender and mashed potato tasted homemade. So I can't really complain about not getting what I ordered. My partner opted for the crab spaghetti and said it was perfectly decent, but again, nothing spectacular. For dessert the crème brûlée was.... perfectly decent, nothing special, a little on the small side and tasted a bit generic.
Ultimately, this is not my first pick for authentic French cuisine in Chicago. While it's not overpriced and the food for the most part gets the job done, it fails to impress in any significant way and needs further refinement. But if you're in the area and need a sufficiently middle brow dining experience this certainly isn't the worst you could do.

We stopped to thank Sandy on our way out, we told Neil at the table how much we enjoyed his service, and then we made sure to give Brandon some feedback too! Our family was celebrating a birthday, we had pre-arranged a menu to have tastes of a wide variety of things; everything was delicious. Service was on time, friendly, but not imposing (a delicate touch), decor and ambiance were done well, not Instagram-fake, menu was true to items delivered, portions were just right, music was comfortably present in the background to deliver vibe without being another guest at the table, bathrooms were clean and well-stocked. Truly had a wonderful experience. We will be back, and will highly recommend. Thanks for such a beautiful afternoon!
