People wait over 1 hour to be served. The line wraps around the outside of the building. Parking is meager.

Last go around didnt like the customer service. The owner the lady is rude and mean asl the way she was yelling and telling the men in the back go get your people and telling them they had to get out is pretty rude . We already had to wait an additional 15 mins in the cold because they ran out meat.
It was cold wind blowing the place already small and we body to body then she mean.
The man on the grill swinging the meat & half was burnt and half was done some was pink
I will never come back especially if this how you treat customers sending in the cold wanting food! The men are respectful and try to keep the peace .

Classic barbecue at its finest!
Waste of money. I do not see what the hype is on this bbq. Tips are poorly seasoned. That sauce is borderline terrible. I understand locals eating it if the do not have options nearby so that may be all they have. But if you can travel DO NOT WASTE your time or gas coming to Lems. The older lady at the register has a bad attitude and she seems too old to care. Just old and stuck in her nasty old ways. Aside from her funky self. That food is trash

First time being here... The line was a little long it was like a 30min wait. It wasn't so bad because the have over head heaters on the building. This only helps if your farther up in line. First red flag I saw the cook pulling the ribs out the box and putting them right on the grill. Hopefully they washed the meat to remove reside that is often on the meat and placed them back in the box. Probably not but I dont know.
The lady at the cash register has a horrible attitude. She seems like a nasty miserable person. She is out right rude. If the food was good I wouldnt come back just off of her terrible attitude. There are too many places you can patronize. Without having to deal with ignorance.
Now back to the food. They give you a big portion. However the good is subpar at best. We had rib tips, and chicken. This food is an absolute waste. The sauce is vinegary. I'm not a fan at all. The ribs are NOT seasoned well at all. The ribs can not stand alone without sauce like other bbq places. This place is over hyped. This is NOT good bbq. You can make better at home and just use grocery store sauce.
Go ahead and make the trip to I57 bbq or Kirks Bbq (ask for no sauce, their ribs definetly stand alone) in South Holland.
Sorry to say Lem's is a waste of money. I will Never go back even if it was free.

As a kid my dad always came here. He used to visit the State Street location as well. As a kid I wasn’t a fan. As an adult I literally travel from one side of town to the other to grab a bite. I love the sauce! My sis had me bring her some all the way to Honolulu. Lem’s for the win!

Restaurantji Recommends
I haven’t been here in years. Waited an hour and a half. Got home and was very disappointed the ribs tips didn’t hardly have any sauce. The sauce so vinegary much so that my mouth puckered and the hot links and fries were terrible. Forty dollars down the drain and definitely a waste of time.

Hello my good people today I just experienced the worst ribs and hot links In my entire life, I cannot believe that the critics that said this restaurant food was delicious. The website showing their food looks like it was very delicious deceiving that’s what it was deceiving maybe AI but not real life. First of all that fake smoke that’s coming out the chimney is not real. The food taste like it was cooked in an electric oven. No barbecue taste on none of the food. The hot links were dry. The ribs was not cooked well they were tough. I would not recommend this restaurant to no one..I am one not to just criticize a person for their food if it’s not good but this is terrible. I spent $30 waited in line for a whole hour to get garbage if you want some real ribs some real ribs and chicken that gives you your barbecue sauce cooked in a real pit go to the west side and get you some Coleman’s ribs you would never eat from Liam‘s again straight garbage sorry limbs you need a new cook or you need to get you Areal open pit barbecue grill in your franchise.☹️😩😒

The owner was rude. My husband asked a simple question and she tired to embarrass him, unprofessional. The ribs were tender. The tips were tough and the sauce I didn't like. We will never go back

Chief Oneills is amazing. I appreciate the staffs and managers kindness to me even though I have autism and their food is amazing and really good. Owner Carmen and Billy is very nice. The restaurant is in good condition. Great rib tips. Must come back. 10/10.
