We used to love Lickity Split. We went often with my kid and my elderly parents, because we could get a table for 4-5 of us to get my folks out of the summer heat. No more. There’s barely enough room for a line of waiting customers, and the focus is on the kitchen business. Their hours also show that they’re no longer interested in walk-in custard customers. They should rename the store to show the new focus. The frozen custard is not really their point any more.
This used to be one of our favorite places to get ice cream locally. As we have done many times in the past, we walked the two miles to Indian Boundary Park, just as an excuse to get some ice cream at Lickity Split on the way back.
But now I guess they think they're a bakery.
Nearly all of the room inside, previously reserved for customers to sit and enjoy their ice cream, has been replaced by workspace for the bakery employees. The remaining customer space is so small, confusing, and poorly laid out that we watched a couple walk in and then just leave.
They pushed their baklava by approaching us and another customer with samples and a strong bit of schmooz -- something that was never part of their approach in the past. According to my wife -- I don't eat the stuff -- it wasn't comparable to authentic baklava like the type you'll find at the Middle East Bakery.
The warm-and-fuzzy, vintage ambiance is almost completely gone, the candy options have been decimated, and there's barely any room to even stand around. There are literally three stools left, with three chairs outside.
We used to watch large groups come in with their kids from baseball games and the like. Because, you know, it was an ice cream shop. Now I have no idea what it is. And I don't think they do either.
I love Lickity! It's my favorite ice cream spot that I've been to since moving to Chicago last year. I always look forward to the concretes and I love the variety of toppings that you can get. This place is a must have if you're on the north side!

They brilliantly decided to make it smaller, less friendly, and harder to get your stuff. And significantly more expensive! I'm looking forward to what foolish idea they have next. Alway ruin a good thing. Oh. And they took away the bathroom. Yeah. no thanks.

This is a great place to help that sweet tooth in all of us. The frozen custard dishes are amazing as are the baked goods. They also have a candy section that is like a walk down memory lane. You will see candies that you haven't seen in years (or decades). Well worth the trip no matter how far away you are.

The pastry is okey but coffee is extremely hot and burned, so I threw it away right away, but the personal is friendly
