This establishment was closed, however I wasn't informed when i booked the reservation. I was sent notifications all the way up until the time I reserved. No one was there, no one answered the phone, and no one responded back on social media. I was taking my parents there for their 70th bday and they were so heart broken to see that our plans were ruined. BAD FOR BUSINESS!

Restaurant is CLOSED permanently and I was not notified. Traveled a distance to find out they closed. Terrible way to run a business and gas is too costly to have wasted it driving here

Rsvp 2 weeks in advance and received a txt message asking me to confirm my rsvp just to come to the location ON MOTHERS DAY & it was closed !!!! No heads up, no call or anything . Went to comment on the owners page just for my comment to get erased and for her to announce days later they're closing the Chicago location . Just as she took the time to write that long, fake ,sad paragraph a phone call from an employee or whomever could've been done to save a pointless drive and ruined plans . So inconsiderate my comment was erased but not one person message me to apologize for the inconvenience. Wish I would've looked at prev reviews instead of IG Because this isn't this spots first time doing such . JUST TRASH

I love this place and was so excited to see 4 open slots today May 1st, so I booked 1pm. I live 40 mins away received my Open Table confirmation and arrived to a closed restaurant! I think management should have communicated with Open Table or something, I was so ready to eat this Fish and Grits!??Crazy...

I was excited to celebrate my friends retirement. A reservation was made and confirmed for 11:00Am on May 1, 2022 for a group of 5. Unfortunately when we arrived the restaurant was closed and a sign read , closed for special event. Other people also arrived and reportedly had reservations…I suggest Lizzy J Cafe take the time to inform guests who made reservations that they restaurant would not be open. This inconvenience most of us, because we drove a distance to get there. I would suggest anyone making a reservation verify that the cafe is still open. A very disappointed customer. I have heard great things and hope they would be more professional. Also the website is deceiving.

Reservations were difficult to make & despite making reservations a month in advance, it was closed! There was our group, who arrived early with a flower arrangement for the table (we wanted to surprise our previous supervisor) only to be left out in the cold! No notice, no apology....

THEY WERE CLOSED, saw multiple other customers going to door for their reservations, and the establishment was closed. They weren't answering the phones whatsoever. We traveled all the way north of downtown Chicago from Itasca for them to not be open. Worst of all, they were still accepting OpenTable reservations all day. They have great ratings, but this first impression is about as bad as you can get. Won't be back.

They didnt offer anything that is on the online menu or on the menu that they have displayedon the monitorinsideof the restaurant, once we got seated we scanned the menu only to choose from five different things that we didn'twant, they didn't have pancakes, French toast or hashbrowns and they only offered dark meat for the chicken we were told that those items were seasonal, the Waffles were dry they tasted like cardboard with nutmeg I got my eggs 15 minutes after I got my waffle its was just terrible you have to walk through the kitchen to get to the bathroom I was very disappointed I will never return.

Top 10 brunches in Chicago! Grits are amazing (either with Shrimp, Catfish, or build your own!) Everything is made from scratch and it shows. Very small space, so make a reservation. And... it's BYOB!

The staff at the restaurant were friendly, polite and welcoming. We were immediately greeted and told we would be seated shortly. The restaurant allows patrons to BYOB, the server suggested we go get our drinks from a nearby store, bring them back to the restaurant and that our table should be ready when we returned. Our reservation was at 12:15 and we were seated around 12:30. We were extremely excited to eat at the restaurant because of the southern cuisine and the many choices offered on the menu. When we viewed the menu at the restaurant, they were only offering the 5 choices featured on their Restaurant Week Menu. This was a bit disappointing because we expected to have the option of selecting food from the brunch menu. We weren't the only people bothered by this because 4 other guest decided to dine elsewhere due to the limited options offered on the Restaurant Week Menu. We sat down, made our food selections and began drinking our mimosas. About an hour into our meal, we were told by the waiter that there was another party of 4 that would arrive in about 15 minutes and they would need our table. We had to rush to finish our meals and waste the champagne we purchased. I have dined at restaurants that place a 2 hour time limit on guests, which is plenty of time for guests to eat and enjoy their meal. This place was small, but cozy so they need to space out reservations to allow sufficient time for guests to enjoy their meal. The food was delicious and staff was polite; however I did not appreciate the 15 minute warning to finish my meal, limited options or wasting my money on the champagne I purchased.

The shrimp and grits was delicious and filling! Lizzy was AMAZING! She customized a vegan meal for my sister and was even receptive to feedback. She was very friendly and kind! Wonderful customer service and food at a decent price!

Visited here for the first time, and I will say that the food is delicious. I'm giving them 2 stars for one reason only....I was rushed through my meal to seat other guests. We weren't even done with our food before the check was placed on the table. With two tables that were empty, it made no sense for our server to tell us that they have "other reservations." I did not see him mention this to anyone else, by the way.It look nearly an hour to get to your restaurant, and while I enjoyed what I ate, I'll have to go elsewhere for hospitality.

Our table was waiting for us when we arrived. The staff greeted us as soon as we entered the establishment. Our waiter was very attentive. The food came to the table hot and delicious. We love Lizzy J and Mrs. Jamie the owner is phenomenal.

Small intimate vibe. The waiter was actually the owner and she was just great. I love her hard work and dedication to her business and I can't wait to see her new location and what else she plans to do. Food was amazing first and foremost. I had the fish and grits ? and I tried the peaches and cream French toast double yum ? It's BYOB and if you forget just like a walk away is the liquor store which was a plus. I plan to use her catering service in the future.

Lizzy J is an exceptional woman. I asked if she had any vegan/vegetarian options, and although she did not, she had the kitchen make something special for me. She was even open to my feedback on the food. My guests loved their meal and ate the leftovers. I was glad my family could enjoy this cute facility and environment.
