While in Chicago. You must do a Chicago style pizza. Hot and fresh out the oven to your plate is a must.
Order the Chicago style pizza.
Slow to sit and be served. Pizza was average at best. Crust was good but everything else is worth a pass.
Very good Chicago style pizza, lots of tomatoes/sauce and ingredients. The family salad was enough for 8! Best to make reservations ahead of time.
Decent “pizza”
The quality of the pizza and especially the dough is very lacking. I am shocked at all of the positive reviews.
This was our first time actually trying a real Chicago Deep Dish style pizza. We ordered two pies, Pepperoni and Cheese delivered to our hotel.
They didn't play around when adding Moz on both pies. The pizza sauce was on the sweeter side. The Pepperoni had more flavor than the plain cheese.
BBQ wings were properly cooked and with lots of sauce.
Prices are reasonable.
Update: After trying a couple of pies in Pizano's, we can honestly say that Lou's is average at best.
Good
Thank you 😊 🙏
Good Chicago Style Pizza. An alternative to Ginos! All you need is 2-3 slices to fill you up!
Carlos did a great job taking care of us tonight!
For our first night in Chicago, I had looked up pizzerias that serve up that legendary deep dish pie. Lou Malnati’s chain of restaurants kept coming up in my searches as authentic deep dish pizza.
I tried to make a reservation at the one closest to our hotel and could only find a table for the following night. When I obtained one at River North for 7pm that same night, it felt like a victory, and at a half hour walk, it was doable.
Upon our arrival, one of the front door hostesses asked us if we were walk-ins. After they confirmed our reservation they sent us upstairs to the 2nd floor hostess who sat us in a 2-seater booth, directly in front of swinging kitchen doors with hard-working staff bustling in and out as they bussed tables. All that rattle and clatter of dishes made it uncomfortable to carry on a conversation, so why did we need a reservation to score the worst table in the place? There were 4 empty booths just behind us.
The service was prompt, and our waitstaff were personable. They alone lift this review out of mediocrity. The salad was tasty, but calling it a Caesar is a bit odd since it was topped with diced tomatoes.
The signature deep dish pizza, “The Malnati Chicago Classic,” arrived at the table on the tepid side, but with a tasty buttery crust. It wasn’t just the temperature, what further ruined it for me was the thick layer of melted cheese blanketing the top of the delicate crust. The overpowering cheese layer supported a tasty blend of sausage slices, but those in turn were marred by a rather bland tomato sauce topping. The whole concoction benefited from a heavy sprinkle of the hots and cheese shakers on the table.
Frankly, I don’t see the hype, but I’m not the pizza lover in my family. I asked my husband and he said he wouldn’t return-- and was over wanting a deep dish pizza.
We had a bottle of wine ($45) so with tax and tip it was over $100 for 2 people.

My first Chicago pizza experience and it was absolutely delicious... We ordered a large Lou's special adding pepperoni. I can't wait to eat deep dish pizza again!
Really good pizza, not to expensive. A must go!
Great Chicago deep dish pepperoni pizza. Pizzas take at least 30 min to bake so plan accordingly. Carlos was our server, amazing and attentive. Visited the pizzeria located on 439 N Wells Street. Make sure to make reservations online via open table or prepare to wait.
Carlos was a wonderful server, the food was delicious and notified us about happy-hour. It was my first time here and I would certainly come back. I feel satisfied!
We're sure to eat here every time we're in Chicago. Never disappointed.
