Probably the best breakfast I've had in recent memory. I had the salmon croquettes, which were very well seasoned and so, along with the cheesy pasta, created a very good counterbalance to the strength of the fish flavor. We finished the meal with the beignets, which were a good combo of not-too-dense and crispy.Wheelchair accessibility: Entrance is level with the sidewalk

I think you’re getting a good value for the amount of chicken you’re getting. Basically a half chicken and it was fried to get a good crunch. I like the waffle/chicken ratio, most places give you more bread and less chicken. The flavor balance is good, the Nashville hot has a Smokey delayed heat that I really like.

Ducked in for a post workout breakfast snack. I was blown away with everything. Starting with the quick line, friendly service, and followed by one of the most delicious brunches I’ve ever had. The biscuits were moist with a little crunch, eggs were scrambled perfectly (I truly mean perfectly with the right amount of butter), jam was outstanding and lastly the bacon. I need a minute to state, bacon is great, rarely “not good.” This was the best bacon I’ve ever had, Smokey, sweet, little charred, and meaty. The gravy for the biscuits was incredible. I wish I was hungrier so I could eat more of everything.Lastly, and incredibly importantly, the staff is so nice! The guys working the floor and kitchen were incredible.I will definitely be coming back.Vegetarian options: Few options. You won’t starve but it’s not a vegetarian place. Great options, but very few.

Southern Comfort on the Northside of Chicago. Luella’s is a haven for lovers of authentic Southern cuisine. From the moment you step through the door, the aroma of freshly baked homemade biscuits wafts through the air, inviting you to indulge in a taste of true Southern comfort. The buttermilk fried chicken is a masterpiece in its own right, boasting a crispy, golden exterior that gives way to tender, succulent meat with each bite. Paired with classic sides like collard greens, macaroni and cheese, and candied yams, every mouthful is a harmonious blend of flavors that dance on your palate. Let's not forget the beignets – fluffy, pillowy delights that are fried to perfection and dusted with powdered sugar, providing the perfect sweet ending to a soul-satisfying meal. With every dish crafted with care and attention to detail, Luella’s delivers an unforgettable culinary experience that celebrates the rich heritage of Southern cooking. Luella's feels like going to a friend's house. Great atmosphere, friendly and welcoming service, and absolutely delicious food! My friend and I ordered gumbo, collard greens, cornbread, and chicken and waffles. The portions were very generous. We had plenty to save for the next day. You won't be disappointed! Bon appetit.

This location will certainly fool you cause it did me! (I will try to keep it short and simple)Many people will see these five star reviews and be misled by the honest experience of dining here. I was intrigued because of the reviews and thought it would be great for a birthday dinner. I was wrong. You cannot make any reservations, (unless 10+) which now creates an unorganized so called establishment. Once walking through the doors it was just that. There were no greeter(s), payment must be up front, and terrible seating. In addition, a wait time of 42 minutes plus for the remaining 4 of five people to receive their food at my table. Due to this and now timing, there was no way of finishing our plates. You may ask if they were busy, they unfortunately were not. Perhaps a pick-up would've been the equivalent or better than dining in here.

Terrible experience! Spent $30 on biscuit and gravy and beignets. Because I was alone I was told to take the table in the corner. It took over 30 minutes to get biscuits and I asked twice for beignets and after 45 minutes they never arrived. I don't care how good they are I'm never coming back!

This was my birthday date 3/17/24Soul Food and Southern cook is two different things. This restaurant serves southern food. To pin point Louisiana style cooking with some menu items. We had Chicken and WafflesBiscuits and Gravy, and Shrimp and Grits, and one breakfast sausage.1. The menu is bland: it is not descriptive of what's in the dish.2. There's a shock factor the food looks good, but there is hot sauce, jalapeños, or spicy sausage on it. We don't eat spicy foods.3. I had to set my own table get the cups, silverware, plates, bottles of water/ no waiter. That part is different.4. Cream cheese in grit is nasty/ they were large grits and under cooked. Reminded me of Paula Deen5. The breakfast sausage had not taste at all.6. The chicken was crispy and moist7. The waffle was different just ok. It was a good biscuit, but the gravy was nasty.8. Watery syrup for the waffles very different.I think the menu should be updated to be more descriptive, that way the things people don't eat can be removed. The Shrimp and Grits is what is is.
