The food was, as we expected, exceptional. That said, $150 iss an expensive price for a meal without a wine or sake pairing, and it's worth remembering you could easily cover dinner for two - including wine - at one of Chicago's premier restaurants for this price. You are paying for both the experience and the food, and while the food was phenomenal, it did feel at times like we were eating in a casual family restaurant, not a higher-end establishment. While the bar stocked an impressive array of whiskey it did not offer any kind of mixer, meaning you either have to drink wine/sake, or whiskey on the rocks. Overall I'm glad we went, but I will probably stick to more traditional high-end dining experiences in future.
Someone who knows the stuff , use the loudest voice to talk with her phone for more than 1 hours to make the Noises. This is not not worth for the place charge for $150 pp. hope they can improve for the future.
Macku was recommended as best sushi since Katsu retired, but I am afraid this is simply not true. The omikase items were creative and thoughtful, palate pleasing, especially for the largely Caucasian patrons, but it is much more Japanese-inspired American cuisine than Katsu, which set the standard for quality sushi with impeccable provenance. Service was pleasant but the servers seemed bored and not very attentive. The selection of sake is underwhelming. The cleanliness of the entire restaurant from ceiling fans to restrooms left much to be desired. Very good but not great food and atmosphere. And the ambient music was often distracting as well as repetitive.
We took our dad here for his 75th birthday and we had the whole restaurant for ourselves. The food was phenomenal and the presentation even better. It was the best and most creative Japanese/sushi meal I've ever had. It was expensive, but worth it.
My husband son and I went to Macku sushi for Mother's Day celebration. The Omakase was amazing. Fresh fish, amazing and creative dishes. The stuff were so professional and wonderful. We felt so relaxed. A very special night. We will be back. Thank you Macku Sushi team? Maral
We enjoyed our dinner and the experience, but the server (who was very friendly) seemed to forget some things. He specifically asked what the budget was for whiskey pours as my husband asked what the chef recommended. He stated staying within $25. He continued to bring out other kinds of whiskey as my husband said what the chef recommended, but when we got the bill, it was way more than we expected. He was given more than the $25 budget he stated- the most expensive pour was at $60. While he thoroughly enjoyed what he drank, we were not expecting to go out of the budget. Not to mention, I was the only one at the table without sparkling water, but he refilled my half full glass with sparkling water, which was also unexpectedly pricey. He also left my husband without a dish as he was helping the female server- as she was presenting the dish to us, he seemed to just leave. It's a great place, the server was great and friendly, but he seemed to be a bit forgetful.
Courses were thoughtful, with a purpose, and delicious. Beautiful
Went for Valentine's day and the food was amazing. The dinner came in 7 courses or so, and took a while, but it was all worth it.It's pricey but definitely worth it for a special occasion. Great ambiance, food, and service overall.Would recommend trying at least once

Why is this place not book for months??
Best sushi in Chicago. Both authentic and contemporary, innovative at the same time.
The signature Omakase is a serious experience. You will literally sit in front of the chef and he will make sushi for you until you can't eat anymore. You will be eating top of the line exotic sea food. If you're on a budget, this is not the dish for you, they have many other items you can have. This is the ultimate sushi experience hands down.
We decided to go this past Saturday and - helpful hint - make reservations! We didn't have a reservation, but were fortunately enough to get a seat at the sushi bar. Watching the chefs if always a lot of fun anyway, so we certainly didn't mind.
The Alaskan roll and Brussel sprouts were incredible. Looking forward to returning soon. Service was very good as well.
