I reeeaallly don’t usually like loud restaurants, but this place is so fun!! A drum line came out! Felt like a community vibe, and everyone was welcome to join the party. Not a place for intimate conversation, but the food was delicious, cocktails fun—good for an energetic dinner out. You can tell the owners, managers and staff put a lot of love into this sweet small business.

dropped in on a whim and honestly, best decision ever! I sat at the bar and the bartender was super friendly and welcoming. I ordered the Fleur de Lis absolutely delicious! I also got a to-go order with the lamb burger and a salad, and OMG that salad was amazing. I seriously want to go back just for that salad! The lamb burger was fire too. Definitely recommend stopping by and showing them some love..everything was top tier!

One of the best restaurants I’ve been to in Chicago. The experience here is unique and charming. Magic and Faith are incredible!

I had etouffee, coffee and bread pudding. Everything was excellent. Maybe the music was a tad too loud.

Fantastic food. The seating was a little weird, as we were seated next to the only other occupied table in the restaurant. But the staff was pleasant and the atmosphere was great.

If you care about service or your time, please avoid this place. Really it took an hour and 15 minutes to get our drinks and they werent good, watery, and tasted the same! Food came out about 20 minutes after that. Portions were small, but the price was high! 20% mandatory gratitude on tables over 2!
No offer to comp anything after waiting so long. They also do a really loud birthday drumming and speech thing!actually offensive dining experience. Also the menu was confusing. For the money it was robbery. $125 for half a bad meal.

We waited 1 hour and 15 minutes before we even got our drinks. The cocktails were watery & not particularly flavorful for $20 each. We ordered 2 entrees and an appetizer, ate it all, and still left hungry because the portions were so small. I liked the flavors but my wife found them too spicey to enjoy. The wait staff did not offer to comp anything and still charged a 20% gratuity. Hyde Park deserves better.

Place is super cute, food was delicious everyone was very nice. My husband and I had a nice time for our Friday night date night. We will come again. FYI There is a 20 percent gratuity added for parties of 2 or more

Soulful, festive restaurant with amazing african diaspora inspired flavors. Great, friendly service. Pineapple jerk wings and salmon burger were a hit and the bread pudding! Yes, the bread pudding! Looking forward to the musical vibes to come and feature dishes from throughout the diaspora.

Service was very slow. And it wasn't just me. Both tables on either side of me also had to inquire about where their dishes were. They have a timing issue. Will not be back. Food was not bad, though.

The food was absolutely terrible this place is totally overrated.
I liked the décor, and the service was okay, but man, the food was very disappointing.

I’ve been 3 times but this new Suya dish?! Amazing. It usually comes with white rice I think. This had a nice balance with the honey on the naan and the spices on everything else. I fell in love with the Caribbean burger then also the stuffed plantains.

I love the presentation they give for birthday celebrations.

Good vibes and people. It feels like home and the food is great.

The first thing I will say about Mahari is that it’s beautiful. Every detail was thought off when it came to design and presentation. I felt like I was on vacation when I stepped inside. The host and staff were so friendly, professional, patient, and attentive. The playlist was amazing as well-it sounded like Amapiano which I love. The plating of the food was lovely- I almost did not want to eat my food because it was so pretty. The atmosphere is welcoming for all occasions and groups. This is a nice place for a celebratory dinner, a friend night, a date night, a cute ans calm outdoor patio feel, or a solo working dinner- while I was there I saw all of the above and everyone looked content and happy. Definitely would love to go back.

My family selected this place for my 60th dinner celebration; one of my pet peeves is customer service whether i am spending a 1.00 or more, and though it doesn't matter to me what race owns the place i will admit when black own business don't give good service. i normally check out the reviews but since i was my bday i didn't i just went with the flow, so now i am wondering if we picked the wrong day after looking at the reviews when i got home. maybe its not a place to celebrate special events. The music was great, the place is a cool vibe, but the customer service on this day was 0-1 and i want put all that transpired because this review would be a book i will say it definitely put a black cloud on my birthday . how do you run out of happy hour menus? i felt like sofia sofia sofia yes i said i wasnt going to forget her name kept avoiding us until happy hour expired. i asked her about the wings and if they were spicy after she gave us a few of the items she could remember from the happy hour menu. She told me no its like a barbeque sauce, so i ordered them and then i was sick . The wings for me were extremely spicy having my mouth burning, my sinus flaring and me trying not to cry i have always have good birthday dinner places and this was a fail. i had someone ask me if i would go back and give it another try, and honestly i really don't know ,but everyones experience is different, but for my family and myself this was not a good selection. i know my kids felt bad because they wanted me to have an awesome day because you only turn 60 once.
