The waiter had no clue about anything. He made several mistakes. Manager came to resolve issues, she was very nice. Felt bad for manager having to deal with everything due to poor quality waiter.
Everything about our dinner was excellent. We never felt rushed at any point during the service. We ordered the Duck a L'orange, risotto, Brussel sprouts and bread pudding. It was all very tasty and excellent. I love French food and it met and exceeded my expectations. I would go again if I had time on this trip. Merci Beaucoup.
Visiting Chicago for post-holiday getaway, on our first night, we decided on "French" and "Walking Distance" and Marchesa was the third hit in the OT search. It was exactly what we wanted. We had Vespers for cocktails, mixed perfectly, and a great match for our starter, tartare. Main menu was classically French in tone and style, preparation and presentation both indicative of carefully applied skills. We each had fish; she had the sea bass on a lemon risotto, and I had the salmon with haricot verts. Dessert was our remaining wine, a light northern Italian red that complemented our food choices. Dessert was two of the house-made sorbets. The staff was knowledgeable and professional, meaning that they were there when we needed them and never there when we didn't. Marchesa's interior was a gentle blend of old-style boîte and modern details with plenty of starched table linens for the formal edge I think every French restaurant needs, but the place did not have the uptight air one might sometimes find. In all, it was a great first time of what will be several times, we hope.
Like a quick visit to Paris—Love everything about this place!?. From the cocktails and appetizers (seafood parfait—yum!) through the coquilles St. Jacques and seafood risotto, to the crème brûlée, served with perfect unhurried timing, we loved it all!
Beautiful room and atmosphere! Bartender was super professional in has approach to cocktails and dinner recommendations. Salad presentation was "hectic" but taste was good. Sea Bass was excellent but presentation could have been "tighter". Very nice dining experience.
from the gorgeous façade, to the inviting, sparkling ambiance, to the bistro bar, to the chic white tablecloth service, to the knowledgeable and approachable wait staff, to the cocktails, to the interesting, creative delicious food paired with wine that is 'just so' - what is not to like?
Marchesa is an outstanding French experience. The food is absolutely perfect and the service (Philipe) was relaxed and extremely helpful. All recommendations were spot on and specials were great. Excellent special occasion place and the Champagne Cave for a more relaxed atmosphere.
Have always enjoyed dining here but our checkout experience leaves us wondering if we want to return. When I was calculating how to split the bill among the three of us I was told their 'system' can only divide the check equally. Have not experienced this at any restaurant in Chicago or elsewhere. Instead of each paying their own (after I had done the detailed calculations), I paid the entire bill. When the waiter did not return the entire check which had my calculations on what each owed, I was told he had crumpled it up. Very inconsiderate as I now had to recalculate again later for our group to settle up.
Very nice ambiance, low lighting, art and French pop music..nice wine list and interesting menu. Service was in point and all of the menu items ordered were created perfectly. Parked on the street and there's also a parking structure about a block down the street.
Classic French cuisine prepared perfectly. Impeccable and attentive service. I cannot more highly recommend the steak frites, it has been perfect every time that I've eaten here. Both the mushroom and French onion soups are rich and comforting. Finally, the creme brulee closed the meal nicely. Furthermore, the recommended drink pairings were excellent.

The duck ? was delicious. It paired perfectly with the orange sauce and baked gala apple.

The atmosphere is lovely. The escargot is fabulous and the French onion soup was good. The duck was not nearly as good as we had hoped. The wine list was very pricey, disappointingly so. (A $60 bottle retails for $10!) The service was good.
A wonderful restaurant in all respects -- food, atmosphere, service. The place is gorgeous, with well-spaced tables that are beautifully set, and romantic lighting. It was especially delightful to be able to converse without shouting, or struggling to hear your companions. The food was top-notch. I had lamb and my husband had the duck and both dishes were perfectly prepared and well-presented. Our waiter was excellent, giving us plenty of time to relax with drinks and pacing the delivery of food and wine perfectly. Definitely our favorite meal over a 5-day trip to Chicago.
Our drinks came slowly and were wrong the first time. I had the seafood risotto, which was quite good, but my husband did not like the lamb chops. Ambience was nice - not too loud and nice decor - but probably not going back.
