The vegan food was genuinely terrible. Whatever you do, don’t order the pancakes.

Everything was great except a interesting smell in the bathroom like a sewer thing. I am sure that can be fixed. Everything else was great. The food and service was wonderful.

Good portions. Food is prepared really well. The server was excellent and can make good suggestions on menu items. I've been twice and would certainly go again. They had an option to add specialty pancakes for $5 to your meal which I really like. It recently changed but I wish they would bring it back!

Everything about this place was amazing. Service, food, speed, value, size of servings, and the coffee! Can’t say enough nice things. Will definitely be back the next time I’m in the city.
Chicken and waffles were garbage, hashbrowns cold. we got charged excessively for orange juice without being told that there were no refills or an actual price. which was 5 dollars for bad orange juice. Check came out to be 130+ for 4 people. Restaurant also had a bad smell but we didn’t care because we were leaving town and needed breakfast.

This is Sunday spot for my son and grandparents. He says these are the best pancakes and he loves his pancakes. The food is solid and the staff friendly. Great spot in the area for breakfast

Great service, great food, tons of menu options, and super affordable prices for Chicago. I was able to find street parking a block down. Definitely a place I'd visit again.

They charge a 3.5% surcharge which ultimately screws over their wait staff as I made sure to tip 5% less as a result. I won’t be back ever.

I’ve been to Meli’s Cafe before and never had an issue, which is why this experience was so disappointing.
We went yesterday when it was busy and sat for about 15 minutes without being acknowledged. We weren’t upset or rude, we were patient and just wanted to make sure we hadn’t been missed. I’ve been a waitress before, so I understand how hectic things can get.
When I politely asked who our waitress was or if someone could come by, the man who appeared to be the manager (button-down shirt, clearly in charge) responded incredibly rudely. Instead of helping, he said, “You’re sitting, aren’t you?” in a dismissive and disrespectful tone. Completely unnecessary. And kept going on about how busy they were.
There was zero reason for that kind of attitude. I wasn’t rude, I wasn’t demanding, just asking a reasonable question after being ignored.
Service matters. Being busy isn’t an excuse to be condescending, especially from someone in management. This interaction alone was enough to make us leave and rethink coming back.
