A friend and I stopped by during some kind of repairs incident in the spring. The owner was super kind and friendly but did let us know to come back when the kitchen was working. We checked back probably 2-4 different times over the next two months during afternoon hours they were posted as open, and it was closed. I suspect this restaurant might be closed-closed, which is a shame, as the owner was awesome and everything about the food sounded great, too.
I was surprised to find an authentic sudai restaurant in downtown after been looking for a weeks. Shout out and try the best food in town.
Thursday at 5pm30 was close. Not sure if permanent or not.
Not open when we arrived at 1pm. Rating it this way because it didn’t appear to still be in business and don’t want others to go all the way there and find it closed as well
Warm and friendly staff. Food is plentiful and excellent. A great way to experience Sudanese cuisine!
First time here and must say I will definitely be back soon. Everything was above and beyond for me. Service, food, atmosphere. We had different kinds of appetisers, mix meat along with a special sudanese dish and dessert( sudanese BASTA) Delicious!! All for a very reasonable price.
Excellent homemade food and very friendly service! Would definitely recommend!
I am not a Chicago local, so I make sure to eat here every time I’m in the area. The owner and her daughter are the sweetest, and the owner explains her dishes in great detail and pride. Everything here is delicious. My go to’s are the beef agashe wrap with Meroë sauce and hibiscus guava juice. Add the turmeric garlic rice for a side and the fenugreek pudding for dessert if you really want to treat yourself. Last time I was in, the owner let me try this new dessert she was working on! It was very similar to baklava, and it was delicious. Hope to see it on the permanent menu one day!
Food was excellent! Great customer service! This is the only Sudanese restaurant in Illinois! Please visit it and bring plenty of family and friends!

A wonderful small Sudanese restaurant with a very friendly chef/owner. I haven't had Sudanese food before and now I am a fan! We got a fish curry with rice pilaf which was absolutely mouth watering and went back for it the very next week. The chef gave us complementary dessert which was delicious. I look forward to trying out more dishes in the future. Highly recommended!
The Kufta sandwich was delicious and prepared extremely fresh. Overall, my experience at Meroe was a good one, and the staff there is extremely friendly.:^)
Hidden Gem! Excellent food! The chicken shawarma is a must try!
