this place instantly made an impression on me. It’s incredibly cozy and full of character, the kind of spot where you actually want to slow down, sit for a while, and enjoy the moment. the coffee was really good, smooth, flavorful, and clearly made with care. you can tell they take their craft seriously. the atmosphere feels warm and welcoming, not rushed or pretentious, which is something I really appreciated. if I lived in Chicago, this would 100% be my go-to coffee spot. great coffee, relaxed vibe, and a space that makes you want to come back again.

Pretty alright coffee. Matcha isn't very good. Really dicey on whether or not they'll have anything vegan. Bagels are available but no vegan cream cheese, have really cut the offerings in recent years.

I come in here a lot and I'm super disappointed. New Years Day- I fly in from Europe. I check online and says they open at 6:30am. When i arrive im told they open at 7:30am. There is no sign on the door, no info online. One of the employees starts laughing and shaking his head at me. I'm begging not to stand in the cold while somone laughs at me, real nice.

We go her frequently and have always had a good experience however I’d like if they bring back real coffee cups for those who want to sit and enjoy. I feel it’s more enjoyable and sustainable :)

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ – My Favorite Coffee Spot in Edgewater ☕🐾📚

This coffee shop is hands down my favorite in Edgewater. The coffee is incredible ☕🔥—smooth, strong, and clearly made by people who don’t mess around with their espresso game. It’s the kind of coffee that makes you reconsider your loyalty to every other cup you’ve had before.

The service is lovely 😊—nothing over-the-top, just genuinely nice people. The owners usually say a quick hello 👋 and let you do your thing, which honestly fits the whole cool, low-key vibe perfectly.

Dog-friendly? Absolutely. 🐶💖 Which means I’m not just getting caffeine—I’m also getting emotional support in the form of passing corgis.

The place has that effortlessly edgy aesthetic 🎨🖤—a little artsy, a little grungy, and full of people who either are working on their thesis or look like they should be. It does get packed when students flood in 🎒📖, but I still love to study or work there. The energy is buzzy, not chaotic.

Pastries? Good. Really good. 🥐🍪 Definitely worth grabbing something sweet with your drink.

Bottom line: This spot is a gem in Edgewater. Amazing coffee, great vibe, dog-friendly, and perfect for working or pretending to work. Highly recommend if you’re in the area. 🔌☕💯

i LOVE metropolis & have been a loyal customer for 5 years now. it even played a factor in choosing an apartment post-grad. awesome customer service and the redline blend is amazing for at-home espresso and has infinitely more flavor than the big chain coffee shops & i love that they just added online ordering. **HOWEVER** the last plea i have is they realllyyyy need to open up this shop earlier. i leave for work in the mornings at 6:30 before they even open up for my 7-4 job and 7:30 is super late for a coffee shop on weekdays regardless. i could probably name 25-50+ ppl in the area who would very much so love & go during an earlier opening time. also, when i went to college nearby, i had soooo many times where I wished they opened earlier too since there's just not enough time to get coffee before 8am classes. metropolis pls open earlier <33

Awesome spacious place…
The vibes on point, reasonably priced, baristas incredibly kind and accommodating and my latte matcha was so delicious! Prepared perfectly, loved that it wasn’t piping hot, I could drink it right away and enjoy. I also ordered a lentil pastry, tasty. It was my first time in, definitely won’t be my last. Highly recommend!

(Subscription review) Although it is a bit of an indulgence, for many years I have continued to order Metropolis's Redline blend (whole bean) to use in my espresso machine at home. Even though it has been 15 years since I last lived in Chicago, and I live across the country now.
Simply put: There is no better medium-roast blend produced, at scale, by any other roaster in the world, at least that I have found.
