Absolutely unacceptable and unethical behavior from the owner, Dianne. I was contracted to do vendor work for this bakery and was promised compensation for a 6-hour working interview (stage). It’s now been over three weeks, and despite repeated follow-ups, I’ve received nothing but excuses, lies, and empty promises.
I was misled from the beginning — Dianne clearly stated I would be paid the day after the stage. I have the text messages to prove it. Now, weeks later, she claims she "doesn't usually pay for stages" — a blatant contradiction of her own words. This isn’t just unprofessional, it’s exploitative.
The level of dishonesty and lack of accountability is staggering. My time and labor were taken under false pretenses, and when I rightfully demanded my compensation, I was met with evasiveness and gaslighting. Dianne's business practices are not only unethical but borderline fraudulent.
At this point, she is outright refusing to pay wages I rightfully earned. I will be filing a formal complaint with the FTC and exploring legal options to address her deceitful conduct. No one should have to fight for compensation they were clearly promised. If you value your time, integrity, or professional boundaries — stay far away from this business.

My boyfriend is vegan and I couldnt find a bakery that would be able to provide a great cake for his birthday, and also be close to me in terms in location.
Everything they did to get my cake delivered to me last minute is so greatly appreciated.

My favorite place in Chicago! I simply cannot stop thinking about how good the brunch is. Unbelievably delicious. I am also a huge fan of their cake and their muffins. The best gluten-free vegan dessert I’ve found anywhere! My husband does not have any dietary restrictions, but he absolutely loves the smoothies!

Only had a breakfast sandwich as I was taking advantage of a late arrival at an office nearby and this would be blunch.
Sandwich flavoring was great, it was hearty and plenty of potatoes, the box was substantially heavier, and I’m much fuller than anticipated. Not sure about the cheese and egg components separately, but together it was a good 3/4 of a sandwich; the last 1/4 being fork food :-)
The bread was great for gf and better than I had expected. A bigger surprise was that the price for the sandwich, vegan/gf and the neighborhood was very reasonable.
I’m not gf and I’ve had their products before with gf family and I find them to be great for gf and vegan baked goods. I did pass the willpower test tho and stuck with the sandwich.

I am truly so confused about this place…I feel like the Montrose location is never open?? Even when the sign says it should be, it is not. I was able to come in once for a latte and it was great, since then I have tried to come in several times for another but it’s never open! Aren’t the hours of 10-5 limiting enough? You miss the whole morning coffee rush for early morning workers. I cannot buy anything or support your business if you are always closed! 😩
The cafe had wonderful staff working with me to create my dream vegan birthday cake! Staff was wonderful to work with, had very fair pricing, and delivered the most beautiful vegan cake to my house! I will definitely be returning. 10/10 would recommend!!!

I have been here a few times to gether my review on the deserts. I really wanted to like the desert pies, but even though we tried 4 different ones, they all tasted exactly the same, probably due to the sweetener they use. Whatever pink blob is on the pistachio strawberry pie, tastes like a bitter crayon, and the chocolate crust on a different pie we tried tasted like soap. I'm not sure if I just had a bad batch on that though.
We had great service except for one time, it was was a different person. The employee wasn't very good at communicating, i didnt even know if she heard what i had ordered, she just stepped away and started doing things. I didn't know if I was supposed to pay or repear myself. So I decided to ask questions in order to know if she heard me. It took a long time for me to get rung up.
I liked the cookies. But my family did not. They thought the pumpkin one was way too gritty. And while that's true, that doesn't bother me, there was decent flavor. But I don't think it's a cookie, it's more like short bread. Either way, I'll just be buying cookies. So I guess my 3 stars are for the cookies.
