Mindy's is one of the biggest mysteries of the Chicago food scene. For all its hype and the consistently long lines on the weekends, the pastries are average, at best. The store's strategy seems to be to hide its mediocrity by loading up the desserts with flavors and add-ons that distract from the actual product. Try a plain croissant (instead of the hot fudge monstrosity) and you'll see what I mean. That said, the bagels are very good and I will go on a weekday...
Best bagels in the city ? pastries are always amazing as well. They usually sell out daily so go early and prepare to potentially stand in line outside ??

If you like pastries and baked goods I suggest you go here. They're closed on Mondays and Tuesdays though
