CRISPY RICE SUSHI...THAT WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE! Miso and Nori: Remember Where You First Tasted Chef TJ's Sushi

Years ago, I walked into a small, unassuming sushi spot and encountered a chef whose creations blew me away. That chef was Jun Ichiwaka, who later went on to open the famed Japonais (Chicago, NYC, and Las Vegas). I get the same feeling walking into Miso and Nori in Lincoln Park. Chef TJ is doing something special here.

This isn't just your average sushi place. Yes, the fish is incredibly fresh, and the classic rolls are done perfectly. But Chef TJ is pushing boundaries with inventive combinations that will make you rethink what sushi can be.

CRISPY RICE THAT WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE! Seriously, it's that good. The spicy tuna is a must, but don't miss the uniquely wonderful creamy scallops (kissed with a torch) or the surprisingly delicious mushroom and avocado. And then there's the Armitage Roll... picture this: perfectly formed spicy tuna topped with a mountain of ruby-red tuna, delicate microgreens, and a drizzle of magic (okay, it's probably a sauce, but it tastes like magic).

But back to Chef TJ. Remember the PandaPop's review. Remember that you heard it here first. This guy is going places. Miso and Nori is a hidden gem right now, but it won't stay hidden for long.

Why you'll be raving about Miso and Nori:

Chef TJ's innovative sushi: Get ready for an experience.
Crispy rice that redefines sushi: Seriously, order it. BEST CRISPY RICE IN CHICAGO AND THE USA!
The Armitage Roll: A feast for the eyes and the taste buds.
Intimate atmosphere: Perfect for a special occasion or just a great meal.
A GREAT VALUE....so beautiful, so tasty, AND VERY REASONABLE = PERFECTION!

As a person who was born and raised from Hawaii, I can easily say (and guarantee) that this was the best sushi I’ve ever had. It was very difficult to find a sushi restaurant that meets my expectations, of being fresh, flavorful, and beautiful at the same time, until I came across miso & nori. The dedication and effort that was put into this dish was top tier, and despite having one chef working at the sushi bar, everything came out so quick for our party. Not only does this place serve a great variety of delectable sushi rolls, but the tonkatsu ramen we got reminded me of Japan, which was also great for the cold weather.
Staff, atmosphere, and food - ranging from appetizers to crispy rice and rolls made me feel like I’m back home again.

We come here at least once a week. Their sushi is so so so so SO fresh. The flavors they have are amazing. I have never seen a chef get rice or karaage fried so crispy. We have yet to have something on the menu that is bad.

Everything on the menu, including their beer, is very reasonably priced, especially for the quality.

We came to try this place out after stumbling on their IG @trymisoandnori, and I’m so happy we finally got to try it!

I was very impressed by the exceptional quality and presentation of the food. I highly recommend the chicken karaage and soft-shell crab—both fresh but also crispy on the outside! The Zuke Sake is unforgettable, perfectly marinated and topped with fish roe. We also tried the Truffle Salmon and Ocean Breeze rolls, and both were 10/10—super fresh!

A shout-out to the fantastic and friendly staff! The service was prompt, and they ensured we had everything we needed.

This is a must-visit for anyone in the area or anyone craving high-quality Japanese cuisine in a cozy, intimate setting. I can’t recommend it enough and can’t wait to return!

I found this hidden gem on IG and was wanting to give it a try. I got to visit it this past weekend for dinner after craving some good sushi - and I’m so glad I went!

Entering the restaurant, I was immediately greeted by the super friendly staff and noticed the well decorated, modern interior.
They helped a lot in making some great recommendations as everything on the menu sounded very good.

The recommended appetizers and sushi were absolutely delicious!! The truffle salmon roll was my personal favorite, and I also enjoyed the crispy rice which had just the right amount of crunch and flavor from the spicy tuna. I got the karaage and the soft crab for appetizers - the texture was perfect as they were both tasty.

I would definitely be recommending this place to my sushi loving friends and to tourists visiting the area! It’s right next to Lincoln Park and the zoo so it would also be a great date night spot. I'll definitely be coming back!

Overall, the vibe of this place is pretty nice, though it's rather dark, so if you have trouble seeing in the dark, there may be some difficulty. The food was tasty, though sadly they had run out of ramen around 5 pm, which was disappointing. The bento box (short ribs) which I got was decent enough, though one of the pieces I got was simply bone with very little meat. The staff was extremely nice, though. Might visit again if I am in the area to try other things but don't plan to make the trip to simply go.
