Mixteco Grill (Wicker Park)

I just parked in front of this place while I looked for directions. It was closed but just by looking in the window it seemed nice and clean. Some guy even picked up his takeout before they turned off the lights so thats a good sign.

Really pretty restaurant. The food was so delicious!!! Had the Azteca Bowl with chicken tings, my boyfriend had the surf and turf burrito, we shared the tres leches cake, and had a wonderful Mexican Coke.
I want to go back for that cake alone. Vanilla Ice Cream Milkshake Cake is what it tasted like. Exquisite.
Go go go. Keep them around!!

The chimichanga is always still crisp and hot when it's delivered. I don't know how they do it when nobody else seems able to do it. Great portions, great taste, great freshness and presentation.

Ordered steak enchilada with ranchera sauce.1 was given chicken instead of steak and I don't think there was even any sauce on it at all.It was so bland and incredibly disappointing. Only thing giving 2 starts is the soup was incredible.

Sooooo mid, taste was ehh, “very hot” habanero salsa was not spicy, the portions are TINY and they wanna up-charge for meat?? Never again. And WHITE RICE and WHOLE BEANS in a taco dinner?? Crazy. Do not recommend.

I’ve been going to this place since they opened a few years ago. This past Sunday, I went with my family and we dined it, I usually get it to go. There were four of us, and we ordered at the counter then sat down. When we ordered at the counter, my uncle had asked for a side of salsa for his fajitas, not chips and salsa, just the little sides that they normally give you at a Mexican restaurant. the woman who checked us out said no problem and that she’d bring over a few different kinds with our food. We also ordered the queso app, which was very good but came with very few chips for four people.

We got the queso first, and finish the chips in a matter of minutes with lots of queso left. When our food started coming out, I asked if we could get some more chips for the queso and the small couple sides of salsa.

The woman then came back with no chip or sides of salsa, but the iPad telling me i owed $8.50 for a side of chips and salsa. It was so awkward. I tried to explain to her that’s not what I wanted, but felt so uncomfortable that I just ended up paying.

She was so rude and knew that wasn’t what I was asking for.

This is after spending $88 for four people and tipping 22% at the counter. It’s not even a normal restaurant situation where you have a waitress so it’s pretty overpriced. i couldn’t believe the attitude.

I really use to like this place but i’m never
going back.

Ordered tacos, nachos, and street corn for take out. Nachos were missing sour cream and tacos were mediocre. Street corn was good.
