This exceeded all expectations. We were in the dining room and had the tasting menu. We have been to many top-notch restaurants in the world and this was one of our favorite meals. Every single dish blew us away, and the beer pairings were just incredible. I drink my fair share of good beer and each of these were not only perfectly balanced, but complemented the food in a way that wine often can't (and I love good wine too). Book it, go here, you won't regret it, unless you hate seafood or beer.

Fantastic overall experience. Combining Michelin starred cuisine with a brewery just works. Food was good and paired well with the house-made beer. Not every dish was a show stopper, but there were some tasty dishes. Atmosphere was relaxed yet elegant. Service was impeccable.

Everything from start to finish was awesome. Incredible service, delicious beer, amazing food, cool decor. Really love this place and can’t wait to go back. I do need to second other reviewers in saying the smell in the hall is completely unacceptable. Not sure what was going on, but it smelled just horrible.

It was our first time there and on restaurant week. The beer selection was phenomenal, we tried multiple ones and enjoyed them all. The 4 oz cup allows you to have multiple ones without feeling bloated.

The food quality is top notch! 🔝

They allowed us to see the brewery to understand how it works.

Totally recommended 👍🏼

TL;DR - food is good but not mind-blowing, the bar is gorgeous, the service is good but again, nothing particularly special. Worth a trip? Yes, but there are other places in the city I'd return to first over Moody Tongue.

I have had the privilege of eating at a few Michelin starred restaurants in my time, and I was surprised that Moody Tongue didn't quite meet my expectations (although maybe less so after learning it lost a star this year?). Not that I am a Michelin judge by any means but there are a few common factors with the restaurants I've dined at that go above and beyond for me that Moody Tongue didn't meet: the food itself, the service, and the *experience*. Here's where MT fell short, imo:
-Food: as stuck up as it sounds, the food here to me was nothing special. Don't get me wrong, it was all very very good, but not "stop mid bite to laugh at how good this is" good, which has definitely happened elsewhere. I will say that the 12-layer German chocolate cake is a must-try!! The timing of the plates was also a bit off for me. For a set menu when everything is ordered at once there were abnormally long gaps in between courses - this could be due to busyness from restaurant week?
-Service: at other restaurants one thing I've noted is how good the timing is for check-ins during the meal and billing, but at Moody Tongue it seemed our server and other staff were there when we didn't need them and then nowhere to be found when we actually did need something, which got frustrating by the end of the meal.
-Experience: it's the small things at these restaurants: a personable, welcoming waiter; a folded napkin when returning from the bathroom; etc, none of which occurred during our dinner. Our waiter was professional to be sure, but was missing a spark that I've experienced in other Michelin spots. Overall I just I didn't feel as though there was any particular area where the restaurant truly went above and beyond.

Worth a stop? Sure! Absolutely. Will be noting for next time to lower my expectations slightly regardless of the restaurant's status.

Loved the Restaurant Week menu! Easily one of the best restaurants in Chicago. Can’t wait to come back and try the regular menu! :)

Would give this place zero starts if I could. Walked in with my same sex partner, sat at the bar, gave my partner a light kiss, and proceeded to be kicked out. The manager denied to serve us and escorted us out. Absolutely disgusting.

This is a 'casual' fine dining restaurant but casual in a good way. You use QR code to access the menu, and the waiter just serve you without too much of talk. The beer here was truly amazing. The food is not the most fancy food I had but definitely of high-quality. We really like the 'whole fish'. In the end, we spend $120 per person which is not very expensive considering it is awarded two Michelin stars. I would definitely want to come back again to try more beer here.

This was my first Michelin restaurant (including Bib Gourmand) and I was at the bar, not the restaurant.

I found the food to be good, not great. The staff very good but everyone was very casual. The wait staff joking at the end of the bar with other staff and managers. Filling up their water bottles at the beer tap. It was not what I was expecting.

I got the braised short rib, it was tasty but it was missing something and the meat was dry but tender. Also the dish was barely warm. The foie gras was good but the portion was very small, the cloudy lemon sauce was very over powering.

The beer was very good and the chocolate cake a must.

I would recommend the bar as a causal spot but not fancy. Like a sports bar just missing the TV’s.

My rating would be between 3.5 and 4
The beer was good
Food -side dishes were good
Mains not so much
And the much hyped chocolate cake was good but not amazing

Somehow the servers were pretty direct and not so friendly.

I will need to update this after I get off the cloud food we just ate! We have never been to a restaurant of this caliber and decided to treat ourselves for a long forgotten honeymoon. No words for what we have just been through... amazing? Incredible? (Adjective here)? Better than anything. Thank you Moody for a truly wonderful time :)

Sat in the bar area which was lovely. Fantastic service. Our server was well versed and able to give great recommendations as well as explanations of the different brews, food options and pairings. The food was absolutely amazing! We shared plates between 4 people which allowed us to taste a good mix of the menu. I highly recommend and look forward to returning next time I'm in Chicago!
