Food and coffee were fine. Prices seem very high and on top of that they automatically add a 15% gratuity. Feels odd for a place that is 100% counter service where the customers are responsible for picking up their orders and clearing off the tables.

I purchased two lattes on a Sunday morning. The drinks were okay, and my 2-star rating is due to 1) needing to pay a 15% auto-gratuity, 2) having to wait 15-20 min for my drinks, 3) seeing a lack of cleanliness in the bakery display case with several flies and bees stuck inside the case. There were so many bugs flying around that one even landed in a customer’s drink. The baristas were very kind, and this is not a reflection on them. Extended wait times can be resolved if ownership knew how to staff their stores appropriately; tips would be less burdensome if ownership paid baristas strong wages; cleanliness would improve with more staffing and better practices that ownership can pass on.

Quaint little coffee shop in the South Loop. I snagged a tumeric latte and it was solid; the staff was very helpful with recommendations too. In an area that has several good cafe options, you should definitely give them a look. It's chill, not pricey and has a lot of options.

My go-to neighborhood spot

I live in the area and come to Necessary & Sufficient all the time. it’s become my neighborhood work spot. The coffee is consistently great, and the vibe makes it easy to settle in for a bit. Sundays are extra fun with the dope DJ setting the tone,it feels more like a community gathering than just grabbing coffee.

Kate, the owner, is fantastic — welcoming, and you can tell she cares deeply about the space and the people who come through. It’s the kind of place you want to keep supporting because they’re doing it right with their Specialty coffee.

The prices, unnecessary; the quality, insufficient. Genuinely one of the worst tasting coffees I’ve had in a long time, at a cost so high I thought the cashier had made a mistake (and in these inflationary times, nothing surprises anymore).
