Came from NJ and drove an hour to try this place, but was very disappointed. The customer service was terrible, and the owner’s attitude towards customers was dismissive and unwelcoming. It completely ruined the experience and I lost my appetite.

Not friendly. We were visiting from out of town and the owner stayed in the kitchen the entire time. The food wasn’t very good
I went there twice trying different food and if you like African food, you will definitely love food there. The lady was nice and welcoming

I should have listened to previous reviews, but decided to give it a try. You must list your prices! $24 for 3 microwaved drumsticks, microwaved rice, microwaved plantains is unacceptable. Microwaved chicken is horrible. Keep a pot of chicken on simmer. Why not have pan of rice on banquet burner. Flavor was there, but everything was dry from microwave. Throw the microwave away! Until then I would recommend find somewhere else African cuisine.
Why is the owner of this place so damn rude? Like what aaaaa do you have going on in life to where you want to argue with CUSTOMERS like lady have you lost your mind? Avoid this place at all cost. Jeeeze
Didn’t like the fact that the fufu was used with the powder, not authentic
Absolutely delicious.
wonderful wonderful place. owner is very friendly. usually has her children assiting her. very police, clean place. wonderful atmosphere and great authentic ghanian african food.
This is the worst food I have ever had in my whole life. I will not recommend this restaurant to anyone. Don’t waste your money my husband spent $70 on the food and we were unable to eat it. Had to throw it in the trash. Please DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS TRASH FOOD.

I thought the price per portion was the strongest I've seen in the city.
The rice was very fresh and extremely flavorful. The chicken was so tender and the sauces were on point. Plantains were huge value and quality
Very quickly packaged for pick up.
Will be back
Vegetarian options: At worst, things would be cooked in flavorful oils, but almost all the dishes are plant based with options to add proteins. The sides are a majority plant based
Wheelchair accessibility: The entrance is right near a ramp and the door is pretty lite. Space to navigate everywhere you'd need to

Bankou tasted weird and too much baking soda in the soup. Also turkey tails is not turkey tail is actually turkey neck.
I don’t live in Chicago we were traveling when I ordered the food and the man was complaining about the late pick up.
Big portions of food but I’m not a big fan but you can enjoy it if you don’t know how to cook African food.

Ordered the jollof rice with beef. DELICIOUS!! Very comforting and so much flavor
Overall Thoughts: This is a small, homey family restaurant serving up traditional, delicious Ghanaian dishes. There was only one other party there when we came for dinner on a Sunday. My only suggestions are around the menu… it’s pretty hard to navigate if you have no prior knowledge of or experience trying Ghanaian cuisine, as there are no descriptions or even prices on the menu. It would’ve definitely been helpful to know the prices before ordering, but the prices seemed overall reasonable when we got the receipt at the end. The server (who seemed to be the owner’s daughter) helped answer any questions we had, and the food came out pretty quick. Otherwise, the food is wonderful and bursting with flavor— would totally recommend!
Food I tried:
- Kenkey with Fish (4.7/5): I liked this dish best out of everything we ordered. The kenkey itself had great starchy, umami flavor, and its soft, mushy texture paired perfectly with the fish which was crispy, well-fried, and flavorful. Combined the spicy shito and onions and neutral tomato, all the flavors came together perfectly.
- Beans (Red Red) with Egg and Plantains (4.5/5): There weren’t a lot of vegetarian options on the menu, but this dish was a delicious, filling option. The beans were full of flavor and the plantains were some of the best I’ve ever had— they were perfectly fried and the oil brought out their maximal sweetness and softness.
- Jollof Rice with Chicken (4.6/5): This was another favorite dish. The jollof was full of spice and flavor, and comes with plantains and your choice of protein. The chicken was super tender and fell off the bone; doused in flavorful sauce, the flavors were robust and hearty.
- Peanut Soup with Rice Ball (3.6/5): I wasn’t a huge fan of the peanut soup here… It wasn’t as peanut buttery as I would’ve hoped, but I recommend getting the rice ball with it, if you order this dish. It’s slightly sweet on its own, and really soaked up the flavor of the soup.
- Waakye with Beef (4/5): This was pretty good and flavorful. The beef was tender and the rice and beans were flavorful.
