Authentic Puerto Rican flavors at their best! I had the steak jibarito and it was outstanding—the meat was juicy, and they really pulled through by making the plantain thin and perfectly crunchy. The arroz con gandules was flavorful and tasted just like home. Plus, they have the essentials like Malta and Champagne Cola. 10/10. Definitely will be coming back to explore the menu because everything looks good.

I used to come here about 20 years ago when I was in high school, and I always loved this place. Since I was passing through Humboldt Park, I decided to stop in for a little nostalgia and hoped the food would take me back.

Unfortunately, it just wasn’t the same. The chicken was very dry, and overall the experience was disappointing compared to how I remember it.

I really wanted this visit to live up to the memories, but it fell short this time.

So far, my wife and I have been here twice and each time, everything about this place has been excellent. The food is great, we love the atmosphere (the old rec-league beisbol fotos are the best), and even when they're super busy the service is top notch! 10/10 would recommend.

The food here is amazing, and it was recommended to me by a friend, so I made the 40-minute trip.

However, I had the weirdest / worst service experience.

Keep in mind the place is small, so when I arrived all the seats were taken. There was a mix of people waiting to order and others picking up food.

I hadn’t been here before, so I assumed you just ordered and then waited for a seat to open up or took it to go. Since nobody approached me, I ordered, paid, and tipped (because I assumed I would be dining in).

There were two couples there before me, and they both got seated at tables. Then I saw a table for two in the corner open up, so I sat down, as all parties ahead of me had either been given their takeout or were already seated.

The people who came after me were two groups of three, so they wouldn’t have been able to sit at the table I was at anyway.

When I sat down, the server (unfortunately she was the only one working, so she was clearly very busy) asked if I had ordered. I said yes and asked if it was okay for me to take the table. She said yes.

My food was ready about five minutes later (roughly 20 minutes after I ordered), so I went to the counter and brought it to the table. I was about halfway done when the server came up to me and asked if I could hurry up and eat so that I could leave and she could have the table. She told me it wasn't fair that others were waiting to sit down.

This really caught me off guard, as I didn’t realize I was a problem. I was eating fairly fast and wasn’t loitering. I had tipped, and had I known this would be an issue, I would’ve made it clear that I was dining in or waited. But the server didn’t approach me when I entered, and there wasn’t any signage indicating that you had to ask to be seated.

Even if I had said I was dining in, I would’ve ended up with the same table based on the order of people, so I didn't feel like I cut anyone

I explained to her that I wanted to dine in and that I had already tipped. She seemed flustered but ultimately walked away. This really soured my experience, so I packed up my things and ordered an Uber home (exactly what I didn’t want to do, as I was trying to save money). The couple next to me (one of the couples who arrived before me) was super nice. They didn’t understand why the server told me that and encouraged me to stay and enjoy my food while it was warm. I just shrugged and said I’d rather leave.

On a day when it wasn’t cold, I would’ve just eaten outside, since I understand it’s a small business with limited seating. But it was cold, I was far from home, and I wanted to enjoy my food while it was warm.

One last thing: when I arrived, there was a large family of six eating and taking up three tables. They even had bottles and a box of White Claw, so they were definitely settled in. That didn’t bother me at all and it actually made the place feel friendly. But it’s odd that even after I waited, paid, and tipped, I was the one asked to leave instead of them who were still there when I left.

The steak jibarrito was the best sandwich I've had in the city. It really is that good. I'm a sucker for grilled onions, and they have a garlic sauce and a hot sauce that both complement the sandwich very well. The service was fast and friendly and my only complaint is that I live too far away to come every week.
