The cusine here is absolutely wonderful! The mix of spices gives the palate a most tasteful experience! Veggies are fresh and not over cooked. We enjoyed their signature dish Pasteur's Filet Mignon. It was divine! The lychee martini was so refreshing a perfect mix. I never eat dessert but actually ordered it and was not disappointed. The pistachio cake was awesome! We cannot wait to go back and try other dishes which they offer. An excellent, family run restaurant, delivering some Vietnamese/French fusion food! Keep up the great work!
Simply Pasteur has become our "go to" restaurant whenever guests are in town or celebrating special occasions. The service and food are always exceptional. The ambiance is warm and welcoming. Simply Pasteur is a lustrous gem in the Edgewater/Andersonville crown.
The food was fantastic as always. We have been coming here for years and are never disappointed. The beef in wine sauce was excellent as well as the crepe. Our other appetizers were very good as well. We had the spring rolls and coconut shrimp. We also had a double order of the catfish in a clay pot. It was a lot of food for two people, but it was so good that we finished it all. You will enjoy the ambience along with the top notch food.
My husband and initially went to the restaurant through a referral and we loved it! Food, ambiance, service, wines, and Kim!!! She is fabulous! We were looking for a restaurant to host a large group so this dinner was to show two other couples what we had been raving about. They found the experience fabulous! And because their impression was pivotal to the decision of the group dinner location, we are thrilled they agreed this will be the spot. We can't wait to introduce our group to this special restaurant. Thank you, Pasteur!
We waited over an hour to get the food. Ordered shrimp in lobster sauce, but only 2 shrimps inside. Bad experience.

Great fresh, delicious food. Nice refreshed ambiance. Can't beat. Am coming back. Desserts were awesome too.
We love this restaurant, my favorite. I always feel like I've been transported to somewhere exotic & romantic whether inside in the winter or out back when the weather warms. Their crepe appetizer is my favorite though I love the curries too.
Food was very good and the service was friendly, but the restaurant was very cold. It got better as it filled up a bit—bring a sweater, especially if you are sitting by the window.
Not enough staff for Valentines night or any night at full capacity. People walked out. Shame. Everything else was fairly good/great.
In a word. " Disappointing". First time here and we are Vietnamese conniseurs, having eaten at Vietnamese restaurants all over Chicago and coast to coast. Ambience of restaurant definitely gives hints to the French influence in Vietnam, however that is where positives end. Started off with spring rolls with beef. Never had it that way before. Always had it with shrimp or tofu. Came out in four pieces. As soon as you bit into the roll, it fell apart. Flavor was average. The fish sauce was spicy. Way more than normal. For entrees I had shrimp in lobster sauce. It was just average. My wife had the duck curry. We specifically asked for it to not be spicy. It came out over the top spicy. So much so, my wife called the waiter over to see what could be done to fix the situation . Being it took an hour for the main course to come out, we asked for some rice noodles to come to balance out the spice. Those noodles never came and when asked was told that the kitchen was busy and didn't have time to get it out. We were given a small 20% discount on her plate only. Unfortunately we won't be back. It is not Vietnamese nor does it have French influence outside of the decor. We will stick to Argyle for authentic Vietnamese food
Restaurantji Recommends
25 min for menu; 50 min for drink order; never asked if wanted anything else after order; could not get anyone to bring bill at end; put down cash and left; incredibly poor experience that was quite disrespectful to customers; experience was obviously being repeated throughout the restaurant with all customers
Always a perfect dinner spot

The Vietnamese fusion food was delicious and the staff AMAZING and always super accommodating. The owner basically lives there to greet and say thank you as you leave. He's an adorable, short Asian worth knowing. I recommend going for their lunch special Tu-Sun 11 am til 3 pm). You receive bottomless squeezed lemonade or iced tea, a small salad, tofu soup, your entree, rice (except with noodle dishes) and dessert fruit. I always get either their sweet tilapia with tomato/pineapple sauce or beef pasta-Bun Bo Xao (although if you don't like fish, ask for it without the fish oil which always comes on the side). The egg roll you get is also some of the best, like a spring roll yet fried. If you like to drink, it's BYOB with no corkage fee. Also, CLOSED MONDAYS!

We enjoyed an appetizer of dumplings while awaiting preparation of Cochinchin & Ginger Chicken, and from their Christmas Eve's special menu, Curry Shrimp, & fresh Tilapia. Our server Lisa & another woman (maybe Kim the owner), kept water filled & table cleared, as needed. Compliments to the chef & entire operation!
Dietary restrictions: Ask about spiciness of dishes, if concerned. The printed menu has no indication, that we noticed. My Tilapia was spicier than I would have preferred, but I don't regret eating every bite. The flavors were THAT awesome.
