Excellent food for our last visit to Pelago. It has been a favorite restaurant for many years. One thing I always hate, however, is that they don't bring your leftovers to the table. They leave them “up front.” But if the coat checker forgets to give it to you, you leave without them. Literally happens every time I eat there. The portions are huge that the leftovers could be two more meals, but they get left “somewhere” up front, a spot I've never seen. Also often the wine list is not updated so you pick a wine and they don't have it. But food is top notch, service during dinner is excellent. Will be sad to see this one go.
Disgusting restaurant and a true rip off. Will challenge my bill. Understand they r closing. Why am I not surprised? Disgusting everything! Should have known there were problems when we first sat down. Uproar upstairs. Not on paying attention to us even though I tried to flag them down and I am not subtle. Heads turned the other way. I have never, ever felt so ripped off from.
This is a review from Aug 27, 2022. We were 2 couples, we didn’t reserve an specific place and we were sat outside (nice patio to enjoy a Summer night). Our waiter was adorable and very professional, spoke Italian with one of the people on our party, suggested from appetizers through main course and dessert. The minor issue was when the check came, they were our of the wine we initially ordered, suggested another one on the same price, and we acceptes it. When the check came the wine charged was 3 times the price, which they took care right away when we noticed. For that reason I didn’t give a 5. The evening was pleasant and the food, delicious.
10/10 from experience to food. This small Italian restaurant is perfect for a Chicago winter evening. Make sure to order the pasta starter which gives you a taste of about 5 different pastas. It’s fun to do with a group or partner and compare which one everyone likes the most. It’s a great idea, so you can try more than 1 pasta and not feel grossly full. Pelago is quiet, small, and classy. I love it! P.S. their starter bread and butter is addicting (see image).
Excellent restaurant. Food was great, service was excellent. You'll pay a little more but it's worth it.
I've never had better pasta dishes in my life. And I've eaten a lot of pasta. I can't wait to go back (and can't believe i never knew about this lovely spot before!)
rude hostess on seating, watered down martini twice after being replaced, bait/switch with wine selection, doubled our order- very expensive - very dishonest - don't go there.
The food and service were very good. Our waiter was very attentive. However, the noise and the room temperature made our dining experience less than perfect. The room temperature was at 77 F degrees which is far too warm and the loud boisterous men sitting at the table behind us made it almost impossible for my guest and me to have a conversation. We probably will never go back to this restaurant.
The corkage fee is much higher than average for Chicago fine dining establishments and one is restricted by only being allowed to bring non-Italian wines which I have never heard of in my 50 year history of running beverage programs in fine dining establishments. I did not allow patrons to bring in any wine that was on my list which is reasonable. Additionally, there is no valet parking which is very unusual for a restaurant of this caliber. The ambiance and interior design is attractive and elegant. The menu is excellent along with exquisite presentation and cuisine execution. Additionally, the Wine List possesses excellent depth and selection especially in Italian bottlings. I question their dress code, however, allowing blue jeans in the dining area. The service is close to impeccable but there is no table crumbing and no one approached me to inquire regarding as to if my food was properly prepared. There is some classic service procedures that are present like pulling out chairs, showing you to the restrooms and helping one to put on their coats of which one does not experience anymore even in so called fine dining establishments. Overall, it is an exceptional venue that is highly recommended.
Food was fine. It was nice to have gluten free pasta options. Service was obnoxious - if you're going to ask the table what we'd like but then heavily push specific specials, why even ask us in the first place? Dessert was appalling. Would not recommend.

Good food. High priced for the quality which is no doubt for location and high level of staff. Good for special occasion. Equally good food in the neighborhood for quite a bit less.

Excellent food, with attention to fresh ingredients as a base for true natural flavors, superbly cooked by a master chef who brings out the real italian taste. Service is attentive and guides you in your choices.
Good food but terrible service, they decide the dishes and brought a lot of food to a group of 7, really took advantage of the group, the last dish was barely tasted. A shame.
The experience was underwhelming. The hostess greeted us and asked if I want to check my leather jacket. I said no ( in fact I wore it because the AC in the restaurant is often chilly). She seemed suspicious and said I would not be permitted to put it on the back of my chair. I assured I would not. Now the food. I remember loving the veal ravioli. This time the presentation very rich. My wife and ordered a smoked swordfish appetizer to share. The waiter seemed obviously annoyed that we didn't order a “main course”. Mind you the swordfish was $36. The price of the veal dish was comparable. There no non alcoholic beer on the menu as there had been in the past. The wait staff seemed to hover over our table throughout the meal. We were disappointed, in part because our memories of the pre Covid dinner had been so pleasant.
