I don’t know what is going on with the tacos but it’s horrible. It don’t taste Mexican it taste like some crap put together. Years ago I use to eat here with no problem. Now it’s a total waste of money. Either y’all need to get a new chef or go back to the original recipe because that ain’t it😩

I like Pepe's food but it's always better to eat on site rather than takeout because it can become soggy. The area and aesthetic of this particular restaurant was not conducive for comfortable dining....in my opinion. I don't live in Chicago anymore but seek out Pepe's whenever I'm in town, unfortunately I can't recommend this one even though the proprietor was welcoming and service was fast.

Went to this location earlier today (5/2/25). I haven’t been there since I was a child. The food used to be so so good, but now it’s really bland, but it was fresh. I got a 10 mini beef taco plate and a #6 combo (included two chicken tacos, a drink, and a small fry for around 11 bucks). I did not add any extras to my order. Mind you, my total is 23 dollars and some change, and the TAX was a couple more dollars, bringing it $25.90 RIGHT?? I take that much out (using Cashapp for this), the guy tells me it declined. Then, he turns his machine around so that I can tap it again….. and it turns out it was declined because he added himself a tip without my permission. Believe the reviews guys!!! This place has gotten so terrible.

The food at this location was absolutely disgusting! Been eating at Pepes more than 30 years and this is the only location that I’ve ever said was terrible. The tostado shells and tortilla chips were thin and stale. The beef had a weird taste like it was cooked with well water. And the cheese on my elotes smelled spoiled. Took it back inside and had the lady smell it and she said that’s just how the cheese smells! No it does not! Literally put both dinners in the garbage after tasting a small amount. Never again! If you eat here it must be because you don’t have transportation to go anywhere else! 🤮🤢

I have been coming to this location my entire life Pepe's have a different kind of classic Mexican taste with like tostada suiza, burrito Fritos ,which are fried burritos their style of Mexican food is a bit different but still excellent and it has been a staple in my community for as long as I can remember the only thing that bothers me is that depending on what you order they may or may not give you peppers and sauce and I feel like you need sauce and you need peppers otherwise again this place is an amazing Mexican experience!
