One of the few (and the best) Chicago places that has the true spirit of a pub, not just tarted up with a façade. From food and drink (including, often, real cask-conditioned ale from a local or regional craft brewer) to the unpretentious furnishings, Pleasant House is indeed a very pleasant house. Most highly recommended: the full English breakfast, any of their “Royal Pies” (which are great to “take and bake” later), Scotch egg — well, basically everything!

Me and my aunt went here this past Saturday night about an hour before they closed. Right from when we entered the service was remarkable and our server was very friendly, kind, and attentive! The food was beyond delicious and would recommend it to anyone that loves English food, bravo!

I like the food and atmosphere.

Great little place with an English-style menu. Meat pies are excellent, but the chips (fries) are even better. They have a pretty good beer menu as well. Service was speedy too.

Great atmosphere, quick service, food was decent but on the pricey side for the portion.

This is the second time I have eaten here. It is also the first time I have tried their brunch menu and it was delicious. I would definitely recommend this restaurant and will be going back again.

Only been 2 times same both. Steak and ale pie with a crown and sticky toffee pudding. They where both everything you would want from said descriptor. They have been out of cask conditioned ale both visits.

Great place for a quick dinner! My food came in a flash!!! My pie didn’t have as many pieces of beef as i would have liked but crowning the pie (adding mash and gravy) made up for it. The sticky toffee pudding is a must have as well.

Southside institution. One of the best spots in the city. Thinking about heading down for a bloody and pie this morning. And a bag of crisps with pickled egg for dessert. Great place to bring family and friends or a date. I often go alone and have a pie or burger at the bar. Cozy. Great for intimate conversation Passionately created menu. Couldn’t recommend enough. Thanks for existing Pleasant House.

What a gem! Absolutely feels like a neighborhood British pub. Incredible food. Relaxed and welcoming vibe. Staff is attentive but gives you space to enjoy your meal. I would probably eat here every meal if I could.
